I forgot to mention it above, but I wanted to thank Brandon for chipping in some extra cash to go toward DM expenses (and Liz last session). It really does help out with getting cool and useful things for the table.

Zerif woke up after a sound night sleep something was bothering him it just seemed that today would not be a good day. Rolling out of bed wincing at the broken ribs he had received the night before he uncorked one of the pain drafts he had picked up for his ribs and downed it. After a quick wash he got dressed hoping that today would be a bit better than the insanity of the predicate day. Opening the door the day proved that it was out to get him. Not two steps out the door did Zerif trip over a large tankard of ale falling to his knees soaking his boots and the knees of his pants.
“Are you fucking kidding” Zerif yelled “who the hell leave ale at a door?”
Standing Zerif attempted to dry himself out with no success and deciding that he has no choice but to change. After changing Zerif walked over to his wardrobe and pulls out his nice black leather boots, the only other pair he owns, just to find a small critter stashed in them. Flinging the boots across the room Zerif starts cussing.
After several minutes of cussing streaming out of his mother Zerif decided to sneak into Al’s room and steel the boots that he had looted off one of their many victims. After the long ordeal of getting dressed Zerif decided it was not yet time to face his comrades instead deciding to take breakfast in the kitchen and catch up on the gossip of the past few night. Immediately after sitting down three of the regular serving girls where badgering him on how his night with Keyleth. Zerif looked at them puzzled
“Look Keyleth is cute enough for a romp in the sack but I would have to be as craze as she is to do it. Hell I think I would end up tied and beaten with that woman” Zerif shivers at the thought “and how did you girls come up with the idea that Keyleth and I hooked up last night.” The girls went about telling Zerif how Keyleth had came to his door with a tankard of ale and whispering that she had a “special surprise that he would enjoy.” Nearly choking on his food Zerif decided it was better to just not say anything besides Scarlet did look better in her dress the night before and he knew that thought might get him killed.
The rest of the morning went without many more accents and Zerif thought that his day was picking up and then they went too Book’s. In the meeting Book’s was not only disappointed that they did not do more he even went as far to imply that Zerif needed “rest”. Zerif thought that the old man was worthless he could give them little to no information and the information that he did give them lead into a huge discussion about what they would do next. After much deliberation the group decided that they would look up Miss Jax’s and have a “talk” with her and we all know that that meant that Keyleth would use her as a pin cushion till we got the information we wanted out of her. The search for Jax’s did not yield us much information but we did stumble on the fact that the guards where not going to be around a small where house. We decided that this sounded like something Jax’s would be involved in and it was worth a shot.
We made our way out into the night as the storm rolled in the rain began to come down steadily. The abandon monastery was early quiet with no one around. For some odd reason everyone in the group went separate direction. Fang and Dyer decided to just go up the front steps Keyleth decided that the next building looked best and Zerif decided to be smart and go between the two buildings. Making his way in the darkness between the two buildings Zerif looked into the window of the larger building noticing that someone had recently had dinner. Slowly he crept up to the point that he could see a group of people discussing some business. With a grin Zerif noticed that Jax and two of her boys where talking with three humanoids from the monster race. Knowing that he needed to get more information Zerif decided to risk sneaking upper the walk way to better here what they were talking about. That would prove to be the worst decision of the night. Slowly as Zerif made his way to the underpass a branch from the dead growth on the wall snagged on his scabbard and snapped alerting one of the humanoid to look at Zerif then somehow push one of Jax’s boys off the third level with his mind. Zerif’s eyes grew wide knowing that not only was he alone and vastly outnumbered but that this beast could drastically hurt him. Zerif began to take a step only to be hit by something a feel his body rapidly start changing till he had a sudden craving for flies. Zerif looked around noticing that the world had rapidly grown and then seen Jax thank him right before making an insane leap and gracefully tumbling into a role. Zerif scamper under the walk way trying his best to hide in his amphibious form as the rest of the group began making short work of the reminder of the group. After all was said and done everyone but Fang was standing bloody as hell but standing. Zerif went about patching Fang hopping he remembered enough to get her moving on her own. After searching the body’s for clues monies and new toys the group went over what they had splitting the loot. Dyer picked up a shard admiring it and assuming it was his and that was his mistake everyone overlooks Fang. Zerif had tried to get her things knowing the truth but It was difficult but this shard was different she wanted it. With a swift movement Fang got her mouth around the shard and the tug a war began. Dyer and Fang went back and forth for a good ten minutes nether one willing to let it go. Finally Fang placed her paws on the shard and sifter back into eleven form. With wide eyes Dyer dropped the shard and Fang quickly picked it up attached it and reverted back to her wolf form. Dyer and Keyleth both look at Fang eyes bulging and mouth wide open. Zerif thought to himself “it’s their own damn fault for thinking she was just a pet” and a smile slowly grew on his face knowing that this would end in an interesting discussion.
Making their way back to Haven Keyleth decided to “advertise” Jax’s availability by writing “for a goos time look up Scarlet Jax” after noticing the mistake from one to many drinks the attempted to correct it only to find that the chalk that she had used would not wipe off. And with that simple task Keyleth decided to “decorate” every wall with something about Jax making our trip home three times as long.

The next morning Fang is waiting downstairs. Haven's bar is not yet busy and she does not yet see her friends. Dyer must still be at the library and the others are still asleep. Fang sits under a window and waits.

Dyer passively watches Fang enter the back room and closes the door behind her. He waits until he's back sitting comfortably before speaking.

"I do not want to pry into any personal matters, as I must assume you have reasons for keeping certain things private."

There is a pause, and Dyer seems a bit awkward when he speaks again.

"I do though find myself puzzled by you." A mix of curiosity and frustration fills his voice. "Given what I know, I set to study today. Yet in spite of my best efforts, I still have an array of possible answers that fit the evidence."

He then looks down at Fang, and speaks in a soft and clear voice.

"I will understand if you do not want to converse on this matter. Should you walk out now, I will endeavor to respect that you must have reasons for your secretes. Even if I do not understand them. I do not promise that I will not continue to ponder things on my own, but I will not share my thoughts with others."

Dyer then sits back, and continues on in a more casual manner.

"Should this be something you do want to share, or a matter to which I could be of some service. I will follow your lead." He motions to the empty chain next to him. "While you are welcome to join me, I would ask the courtesy of being able to speak to you face to face, and not face to facade. That is, if I am not already doing so."

Fang's eyes follow Dyer as he talks.
"I have never put on a facade," she says and then switches into her Elvin form. She then takes a seat at the table across from Dyer. Her eyes squint and her ears prick forward, as if her senses have been dulled. "Those who walk on two legs put to much faith in words. Language goes beyond the tongue." She holds up her hands and wiggles her fingers around, for a moment distracted. "I can not answer your questions because I don't know the answers. Before I met Zerif I belonged to a man named Huff who kept me in his underground kennels." Fang looks Dyer in the eye and continues. "Many men deny freedom from those weaker then themselves. Whether for profit, power, information, or otherwise. I have lived through the darkened hearts of those who stand on two legs. And I do not wish to join them."

Dyer sits still, clearly studying Fang for a moment. He breaks long enough to slice some of the cheese and bread. He can then clearly no longer keep a wiley smile from his face. "Simply amazing." He mutters.

He composes himself, and continues "You are quiet right of course. Language goes well beyond the tongue." He offers Fang some of the bread. "Language is a construct of our minds. Controlling much of how we deal with the world. And like other things of faith, one's belief in their words often goes unchallenged or examined."

He pauses long enough to take a sip of wine.

"You for instance."

"You say you do not know answers, to questions I have not asked."

"Yet by holding to the idea that you do not know something, you are the one keeping yourself a prisoner. Or perhaps just avoiding an uncomfortable conclusion. More often than not, freedom is something one denies themselves by failing to find answers...or at least being unwilling to face them."

"You clearly do have answers. And you clearly have your own questions. I am not sure though you desire to connect the two."

"For myself. I seek my own answers to my own questions about you. My hope is that through conversation I might find out more things on which to consider, and through them potential solutions to what is puzzling me."

"So far, I find this to be a very enjoyable exercise."

"That though is only a benefit to me, and I have a firm belief in exchanges being fair whenever possible. So I think that my thoughts could be helpful to you, if you have questions of your own that you are willing to face."

"If you do not want to hear my thoughts about you, or do not feel that would be a fair trade, I can propose an alternate arrangement. If you are interested."

"An exchange of facts about ourselves. And if that is what you would like, and you have already offered up a fact about yourself, I would welcome you to ask me for any fact you wish in order to balance the scales."

Fang looks at Dyer from across the table.

"Well then, go ahead and ask your questions. I will do my best to answer them." She gestures to his books. "You seem to have more knowledge them myself. But I consider you a friend. I will share what little I know to add to your collection. I ask for only your loyalty in return."

I can be their this weekend

"I think you share more than your realize, and know more then you give yourself credit. For example, by changing shape at apparent will and being able to maintain this form as we talk, you have further refined my theories. Control also suggests that your do not suffer a curse, but instead your ability to assume forms is a natural or mystical in nature. Claiming the shard and affixing it to the carving I see on you, also tells me much about what you are."

"I will give you what I can, both in loyalty and my knowledge. In return, share what you can. I think that we will find the exchange enlightening for us both."

"As for my thoughts," Dyer looks over at the notes that sit at the table in front of him "There are alternatives that I can not completely rule out, but I do have a strong suspicion about you thanks to what I have observed just over the last few minutes."

Dyer then turns through a few of the loose pages he has and turns, discarding drawings of figures changing into wolves by moonlight and fey creatures. Finding the one he was looking for, he turns the page to face Fang.

"There are legends that say once dragons taught mortals how to draw upon the very essence of nature to empower themselves. Bringing them the power to change form and use the raw spirits of Eberron to fight their enemies. Even to face creatures of pure madness. There have since been many changes to such traditions, but the principle of raw natural power being used by select individuals either through an innate connection and talent or training continues."

The picture is a simple etching, depicting humaniod forms wtih staves and hand held carvings transforming to great predators and charging into battle against creatures of formless horror.

(I'm good for this Saturday for whatever, anyone wants to do something, just let me know).

Sorry I had to leave in mid-combat. Hope things went well. I'm very interested in hearing how things turned out. I'll be looking forward to the write up, unless someone wants to e-mail me first. Depending on where things went and if there is dome down time afterward, Dyer will be following up on a number of things both related to the shards plot and Fang's background. If the group is interested in going into the Cogs or the sewers that are below Sharn, Dyer will work with Books to try and identify the most likely group that the Changling was dealing with for the big shard (if that's where it came from) based on all of the various notes and ledgers he's seen (as he's the only one that has seen them all). He'll also be around Haven if anyone has things they want to talk to him about, at least when he's not disappearing from time to time to follow up on the stuff I wrote to Aaron about before.

If nothing else, I'm still good for the 17th, just let me know if anything changes before then.

Great session guys! Things could have moved a little faster, but I will chalk it up to being the first time in a while that we have had that many people at the table. Next time, hopefully the group will be a little more decisive.

I've also been thinking about designing something in the heavy weapons department. Thematically with the character it would be along the lines of an RPG. The following makes it pack a punch but slow to reload. Not prohibitively to the point where the weapon is itself outclassed by other standard weapons.

For the purposes of RP, my character does have 2 apprentices (who're only there as background NPC's) artificers, Locke (lv1 Goblin Artificer) and Lode (lv1 Kobold Artificer) who, while we are out doing stuff, can be working on the creation/upgrading of our equipment. For sessions that I'm unable to come, I'm working with those guys at Naked Industries on schematics and the construction of equipment for us.
