I wanted to do something "small" to get the hang of putting the ship together, and something i hoped would have few conversions (heheh there were more than i expected on the doors in this one...) but all and all it was good, becuase it gave me practice on the ship i plan on making for the PCs in the SW game.

Cool build Ghenghis_Ska, It's nice to see a little variety in the First Light builds right off the bat, keep posting pics, can't wait to see more !

I'm trying to decide if i want to put all three Turrets in.

I think i am leaning toward two turrets and an Escape Pod, maybe an air lock instead of the pod... but thinking Escape pod.

So that means if i go Escape pod and two turrets....

Where to put the turrets, the most logical seems, make the Tub basically a gun well (seems very SW, like the Falcon, but latteral instead of vert) and so then the Escape pod goes off of the Bridge... seems to make the most sense.

So now all that remains is to build them... lots of windows on the Turrets heeheh.

I'm considering that as well. I was looking at First Light, and realizing there were two very strange design decisions:

1) The Escape Pods are all the way across the ship from the bridge. Coming off the back of the back of the bridge would make a lot more sense - but then both turrets are on one side of the ship, giving a "blindside" to the bridge side of the ship for gun coverage.

2) The reactor is next to and behind the cargo pods. I'd guess this reactor doesn't operate with any serious emissions.

Oh - if you do the Tub bracketed by Turrets, make sure to print the back Turret reversed to get everything lined up properly.

One of the reasons i went with the Tallon version over the Stock was that to me with the foot print and then guns sticking off the end of the turret made it almost stick out on the front of the ship, it had the best coverage of the ship. I can suspend disbelief and say the gun barrel mount is swivling and so the starboard side is very well covered with a decent coverage of the aft and bow of the ship. So really just the Port needs coverage with something, i am thinking about just getting that little nip if a gun barrel and mounting it under the big window, sci station to cover that side of the ship...

Besides the Han Solo-esque flying PC's do, you can always make sure that theys have pivoted the ships to give a shot at pursuing ships and targets.

I've just downloaded First Light and I was so looking forward to a good browse

The sad sad thing is the first week, i actually had my Camera with me but left it in the Trunk of my car. Since we were mainly doing character creation, and RP with little combat, just the character intros how all of the characters were working on the Frieghter (and the big Barloz Finally has a name, The Dark Mystic), and them setting up the ship with all of the fiddly bits, and looking at it going, cool, oh that's my bunk, looking at the various props, (many of the WWG paper ones, a few Mel ones, The Captian had a nicer bed than them, and some Stuff from Galoob from the action fleet line).
And one of the guys, Jason was really impresses with the R-36, he was like, Get out, the cockpit actually opens and spent a minute putting his character in it, and then offically adopted the ship as his characters project to tinker with and modify. They ended up fighting in the lower hold when the PC on the flight deck, noticed doors opening on the ship, and sent the guy down in the lower hold(working on the r-36) to check it out, a blaster fight insued, with the bad guys taking cover behind the crates of cargo, and Jason's character shooting out from around the corner of the bulk head. They really liked the look and knowing if a door was open or closed, a few minutes of almost an objective of the session that week was one of the bad guys getting to the bridge to get corridantes, and tenssion was evident as the captain had left the door to the cockpit open, and the PCs were like "no, i locked it, stupid captain." And the PC's trying to stop the Sith from hitting the bridge.

The scarry thing is i used a random name generator to get the name of the PC's ship, and went through about 12 before i got one i liked, but the 6th one to generate was the Ebon Hawk:o , but couldn't use it, i just thought it was interesting that it actually generated the name of a ship from "canon" points to anyone who knows were that's from.

I modified a Table in the Program Table Smith, to take the random tables from the old SWGamer Magazine, and various online random generators, and other generators to make a custom one that i liked. While i built it myself by compiling a whole bunch of charts, i was suprissed it actually poped up a ship from the universe.
