I keep meaning to do a Youtube video update to talk about what's been going on but I can never seem to find the time. The short version is that there's actually a lot in the works and sometimes our silence is more a reflection of that than anything else.

• Matt's SwiftScenics Mayhem buildings are coming very soon.
• Tomas's Inn of the Feisty Friar & the Inn props pack are both on the verge of launch.
• A special WWG secret project (a big one) is going to be announced. It's a multi-part project that's sure to make many people very happy.
• And of course there's some exciting stuff happening on the TerraClips front, which by necessity, we have to be pretty tight lipped about.

We've also made some important changes to our workflow recently which we hope will speed production and offer more regularity to the community (both in the form of releases and previews as we move through the process).

So say it with me...

If you guys have a chance, I'd be interested in hearing more about your workflow. As long as nothing isn't secret.

The video that you guys did quite a while back was interesting, and I'd love to hear an update.

I absolutely despise 'secrets' that don't come with enough clues to speculate upon.

Not being secretive to drive you nuts. Someone asked, so I gave as much as I could. Due to the size of the undertaking, we just have to make sure everything is aligned within the project before doing an official announcement. Almost there though.

Can someone with an earlier join date please comment on the relationship between "Almost there" and "Soon", please? [/pokerface]

If I'm not mistaken, "Almost There" = 2.13 "Soon" (or is it 2.14?)

So "Soon" is sooner than "Almost There", which means that soon there will be a "Soon" that is the official "Soon" - at which point we are no longer "Almost There".

But you fail to recognise that too (2) "Soon" is almost "Almost There" , just 0.14 short of it.
Besides, Denny lives in Vancouver and there is no pi in Vancouver, is there?

I hate to throw a wrinkle in here but I just got a hold of some CERN grade neutrinos with faster than light capability. So in this case I'm using "Almost there" to replace the context of "Soon".

You're already late : it was stated that those neutrinos were not faster than light. The scientists just forgot to take into account some sattelite time shift in their calculations...

I'm pretty sure this is how to properly calculate "soon":

1) You have to get it in your head that you HAVE to convert a non-tlx set completely into a tlx set.
2) You have to do something that involves a roof system of some sort.
3) You have to announce on the forums that you're going to do this, and get people to show interest.
4) You have to have a major hardware failure that sets you back to square 1.
5) You have to have a family crisis, or a work crisis, or both during the work.
6) You have to complete the kitbash, have it accepted and published.

Once you're done, you need to calculate the time between the first person's post indicating interest in the kitbash, and your completion date. Voila! That's "soon"!

I look forward to hearing people post their calculations. I, for one, am almost done with steps 1 through 5, and so I should be able to get back to working on step 6 "soon"...

As I understood it (and there may have been more information released since the last time I read about it) there was a margin of error that was + or - a certain amount of time. And if that amount of time was indeed a minus, the satellite time delay might have put the neutrinos slower than light. But if the margin of error was positive, then the satellite time delay would not have necessarily put the neutrino at slower than light...

I really don't have the brainpower to sort this stuff out any more (head injury + seizures + too many meds = cognitive dysfunction) but that was how I understood it.

Good point. You need to factor in the Canadian to US exchange rate and customs delays. So, that leaves you with:

soon(US) = [soon(Canadian) * 1.0072] + 6 weeks

Since we know from earlier posts that almost_there(US) = ~3.14 * soon(US), that gives us:

almost there(US) = 3.14 * ([soon(Canadian * 1.0072] +6 weeks)

Now, there's been some debate in mathematical circles whether there is a constant or variable relationship between "almost there" and "not far now." Since "not far now" can only be defined accurately by a parent in a car with at least one child in the back seat, much of this debate is dismissed as pointless conjecture.

thing is actually a very large amount of disrespect to the customers and followers by the companies that use it all the time. Reaper minis being the company that totally made me loose all respect for companies that bandy the term around.

To me it just shows a total lack of integrity. I would far rather have truthful, "we don't know", "we are working on it," "things have come up, and the project was pushed back" etc. over a totally meaningless attempt at being cute or funny. I have to say many times in the past Denny and crew at WWG (and Mel when he was solo) would be much more forthright and say that "well yeah life has been happening, and well things are just going slower than expected".
While it tells you nothing it is a much more humanistic and real response than just a stock SOON tm.
That response does not take anything and is in truth meaningless, and a copout answer. To me the fact that it is meaningless means the companies who use it don't care, so why should I care about them.

I lost ALL respect for the people in charge of Reaper after spending a very short time on thier message boards, and seeing the term tossed out left right and center. It lost all respect for the company becuase of it's forum prescene, and a non answer of soon being such a stock answer for stuff that just never materlized.

What about when their subjective view of soon is honestly what they believe? The term is so subjective that I agree that it has not much meaning unless you have personal knowledge of the utterer's use of the word, but, at least in the case of WWG, I do not think they are trying to push off inquiries with a nonanswer. Things may happen between the utterance of soon and now, but they really do not owe us an explanation. They could say nothing and then just spring the products on us.

I can only speak for myself.

Experience has learned that real life gets in the way all the time. Everytime I think I have a good idea of when I will be able to release a set, something gets in the way. Personally, I don’t dare using the term soon on these forums, because of the running gag that it has become. But the truth is that some projects take quite a bit of time to complete.

Take the friar for example. I have been working on and off on it for over a year now. That’s a long time. Especially when you want to show people what you have done after you have made the first sample wall. At moments it really is a matter of fighting the urge to share the cool new stuff you are doing with everybody. And trust me, every time someone here says it is coming soon, it is because they honestly think that it won’t be long before the set is released.

I understand what you say about giving the real reason why something is delayed. Again, I can only speak for myself, but I once had a teacher who was allergic or excuses. You can give any kind of reason why you didn’t make your deadline (even if it is self-imposed), but in the end all those reasons are just excuses. If you miss a deadline, you miss a deadline. If you don’t have anything to show, then you haven’t done anything. the reason why is not important.

Just so that its not lost on anyone, the reason I did the whole "Soon TM" thing was to make fun of the entire concept of overusing and over-promising with a term like soon! Its not and never has been a realistic term to throw around here and I'm mocking WWG in general on that one because we know, just as well as you do, that its never that cut and dry.

If you've followed comments made over the past few years, the word "soon" very rarely comes out of my mouth and for good reason. Tomas already explained a few but the truth is that we rarely have the convenience of absolute deadlines (on PDF's) to work with when staff are part-time and or bogged down with real life issues.

We're still in the process of changing our workflow to speed things up, offering better regularity and to really nail down a committed core of developers. We don't like making you guys wait but we also don't like to tease prematurely. If we prattle on about this delay or that delay, who's dog died that week, who had to take on extra work shoveling ditches to make ends meet, well, that tends to look pretty unprofessional.

I have no doubt you will achieve more of your goals once you do nail down a committed core of developers. In any creative environment however you will never be able to keep up with the all the project ideas you think of.

As we say in my little hamlet in the South ... Do the best you can; as for the rest, let the loose ends drag. Soon is soon enough since I'll keep kit-bashing with whatever is around anyway.

Reaper got my goat with it and it was the final nail in their coffin for me, I just discount Reaper and everything they say now.
