My stack. This stack has been sitting on my shelf for a month and a half. I cut my first sheet tonight by hand and the build will likely be cut entirely by hand.

This is the first time I have done any serious building at this house and we moved here in July. No that I think of it, I haven't done any serious building since my Streets build that started last January and wasn't done until April or May...

I picked it up along with a TON of other sets and papercraft stuff pre-Christmas. The Lair of the Dragon God set seems HUGE! I think I'm going to actually start the build by making the dragons themselves. Making some props or figures helps motivate me to slog through the posts...

I'm looking forward to building this set, but not until (a) The Maiden is done! (b) I have some Hinterland Cliffs built! (c) I get some standees done up nice and purdy... Gaa so much to do! So please, do keep us updated with pictures of your progress, because it's the only way I'll get to enjoy this set for a while!

Yeah, this set is a rather hefty one. I will do my best to stick with it, even if I only get a little done here and there. I will set small goals and work through those.

Goal #1: Cut out all Posts
Goal #2: Edge and Glue Posts
Goal #3: Cut out all Walls
Goal #4: Edge and Glue all Walls
Goal #5: Cut out all Tiles
Goal #6: Edge and Glue all Tiles

Goal #7: Miss Props and other odds and ends.

Tonight's hope is for #1. If I complete that I will be happy. Although, looking at how many I printed, I think I may have sorted myself. I only printed two pages of each post type. I guess that means I am more likely to accomplish my first couple of goals though

I will also say that I am in the market for a Silhouette SD, if anyone knows of anywhere decent to get one. This build has made me increase my budget for one, for sure.

After dinner and such I watched Mad Max 2 and got some work done. Posts are cut and half edged. Three pages of each 4-way, 3-way and 2-way...with the 4-way and half the two-way edged. The stack size is pretty much the same as it was when I started.

As for the build process, it is bitter sweet. I had been being spoiled with a craft-robo that a buddy owns. Cutting isn't too bad though. It just takes time. Maybe I can convince my wife to help edge tomorrow...

Somehow, when I see this stack of paper, I can just think: what a ton of works! It would take monthes for me to build someting that thick!

Scoured the internet for a little bit today looking for a Silhouette SD for a decent price. A seller on Amazon had one in stock for $199 + $15 shipping. By the time I clicked the purchase button it was sold out though. I am going to try and get some work done on this build and hope for another decently priced unit soon.

Posts all cut and edged. Going to cut walls now so that I don't have to dig out stuff to press the gluing bits until after the movie (Mad Max 3 this time).

So far:
Nine pages of posts cut and edged
Six pages of 3" walls cut and edged
Five pages of short angled walls cut and edged

You can add 12 pages of 6 inch walls to the cut and edged list. Tomorrow I am hopeful for glue, tiles and some bridges/pillars. The pile to cut is now much smaller. I am feeling good about this.

keep up with the updates, I know that helped me get thru alot of my first build (that I still dont have complete- I blame my full time job).

I am finding that the posts from you guys are ordering the most encouragement during this. Don't think I could get this much done without it. Please keepp the comments comming. The tiles are the most daunting part for me.

Alright, time for glue. Also, our biweekly D&D session fell through this week (and was pushed to next week), but one of the players offered to come help build terrain! He has no experience with it, but I am sure I can find something for him to do.

Any suggestions on what part of the build process to put him on?

i would say edging....or if they have a steady hand, cutting out the posts or walls-that will save you the time

I had them cut the little pieces off the walls after I glued them. We worked for an hour or two before switching up to play Munchkin. Definitely saved me some time. I have all the walls and posts glued, just meed to cut the final bits off, glue the triangular piece on some walls and maybe some touch up edging.

I also have tiles and the bridge left to cut too. I am satisfied with what I have completed in only a couple of days. Today is packed with other stuff to do, including getting ready for going back to work tomorrow, so I doubt I will get much done tonight. I will try and get a little done this week and maybe have something presentable for Saturday's game.

For tiles I'd say stick to the same production methods you've been using-cut out all the tops, glue down all the foamcore guides, cut out all the foamcore guides, glue the tiles to the foam core...working in blocks like this always feels more productive than doing A single tile from start to finish, then doing another tile from start to finish.

What's your pile depth looking like now?

I already have foamcore pieces cut. I went through at one point and just cut sheets and sheets of tiles so that I would have a stockpile. I should be fine for this build, but I am sure that getting a robocutter will make me use up my reserves.

I have cut four tiles and that is probably it for today, but we will see. The current stack size is much smaller than I started with. It is sitting at about 3/16" right now. Much less intimidating than it was when I started this thread.

I am anxious to get more building done. Could one of you convince my job to fit in some time for me to build?

Very little progress has been made this week. Maybe I will get something done tonight and tomorrow to show off on Saturday. That is the plan, at least. I will update when this goes somewhere.

Also, havent heard about the silhouette sd I ordered. Would be nice to have it this weekend...

I should have been working, but instead I watched some episodes of Bones and cut some tiles out (eleven seems like a weird number, but I guess that is what I printed). I only have hallway tiles and bridges left that are printed already. Tomorrow night will hopefully be edging and gluing. I might actually be able to accomplish a large chunk of this build by this weekend's session.

My new Silhoueete SD arrived Friday night and saw some use over the weekend. I finished cutting everything and am partway through edging. I even cut a dozen or so canal tile too. I will try and finish up dding soon and hopefully move onto the build phase.

Thanks for all the motivation. I need it. Build consistently is a new goal of mine...even if it is a minimal amount.

Just had a silly thought-when you're done and building up use the same ruler to illustrate the heights you're able to reach from your starting stack of paper.

I am sticking with it, although at a slow pace. I am trying my best to do at least something terrain related every day. I have cut everything, edged 99% and glued most. I now need to glue the rest, edge some anchors and cut out the cut-away parts of walls and posts (difficult to convince myself to do now that I have a Silhouette SD).

I have also ran a number of other things through the machine:
- cut out quite a few 6" canals tiles
- cut, edged and glued a couple pages of props from Hinterland's Forests

I haven't stopped working on this. It has just been little by little. I am at the 99% mark. Only have to glue anchors down now and then start deciding what else I want/need to print. I will do my best to get pics up this weekend sometime.

I am 100% done and onto the next build. Maybe I will start another thread for that one...
