I need help using Photoshop with out asking my brother's (read little) help. After viewing the photos containing Castles & Keeps that someone had shopped into chunkiness, it created a craving in me that wanted that too.

All good - I have PS and C&K, GR and the others. I can Butcher and Paste quite well but what I'm looking for is how to create a library of images. This library is so I draw from with out having to Butcher and Paste all the time from the source files.

I hope I have explained my self clearly - I aim to join up wall sections to form walls and use the flooring as tops for these chunky walls - just like .

I know that somewhere in the depths of WWG there is a Chunky 1" coming, but until then I would like to try my hand at this project.

Ok to clearfy I have taken samples of all the walls and arches in C&K and dumped them onto a blank page. Is there a way of saving the Layers and not the whole?

Then I would like to crate a toolset with these layers to make it more user-friendly.

I dont think that this would voilate anything WWG is setting out to do as this is an personal enduvor for a good old Kitbash.

I redid the houses in VillageWorks so that I can turn layers on and off to make an infinite variety of different houses. I can change each wall on each level, change the positions of windows and doors, etc. Have a bunch of roofs I customized too. I can do all this then save it as a separate file, then print it out, cut, fold, glue, etc., one piece plus the roof. This works for me as I don't do gaming, just modeling. Also i make them smaller than the gaming size. I've got layer sets created so, if I wanted to (and here is where it gets tough because of the size of the file and number of layers) I could easily go in and add a third story. (It is set up now for one or two stories; roof peaks are in all locations so I can even vary which way the house faces, plus turn on or off each wall individually.)

I can rearrange the doors, windows, and arrow slits easily, as well as customize the walls (plain or plaster) to create many custom towers. In practice I would probably create just a couple and print them several times for a castle.

I even created a special VillageWorks house using CWU textures!

Thanks, Lord Abbadon. The way I do mine is to have fixed layers I turn on and off. I'm interested in your pull-down menu brush idea, though. Mine is processor intensive because there's so much stuff in the file, even if I'm not using it, but I can turn them on and off and they are automatically exactly in the right place down to the pixel, since that's where I put them.

As far as deleting the background, let me think about that. How about just making the background blank? I'm looking thru my files and see I don't have a background in them, so I got rid of it somehow. LOL. Okay, do this. Create a new file the same size as the one you want. You'll get a background. Duplicate it a couple times. Hide the background. Flatten image. It will ask you if you want to discard hidden layers. Say yes. Now you'll have one flat layer that is not locked. In your original file, create a layer set and put everything into that layer set. Drag the layer set from that original file onto your new file that has no background but only the one flat layer. Delete the flat layer and presto. There you go.

One more: I converted my two-story Photoshop file to allow me to do three stories. Here's a sample showing what's possible:



Dang it! Dang you guys! Now I'm obsessed with this again and am working on re-tooling the whole thing to be even more accurate and modular.
