I've been building some boxes to store my TLX parts, and came across this bit in the instructions:

"You cap the box off by using any standard 6X6" tile, held in place atop the ledges around the perimeter. You can also lock it in place even better with four "railing" pieces"

Well, I did this and thought "Hmmm. It'd be a shame to waste a usable floor tile and 4 railings for a lid. Hmmmm."

So I was getting some supplies at my local craft store, and got a sheet of mat board. Here's what I did:



^^ One cool-looking floor tile.



^^ I cut out the middle portion, edged and colored in the anchor glue spots.



^^ Using a piece of mat board, I traced around the cut floor tile.



^^ After cutting out the shape, I edged the corners, 'just in case'.



^^ Here's the railings I used.



^^ Note that I left some white space around the lower lip (at the top of the picture) and by the area where the tabs would go ...



^^ Scored and ready to sandwich-fold ...



^^ After gluing the sandwich fold, cut away the notches and edged ...



^^ Then glued in place, wrapping around the bottom lip under the mat board (I had to cut away at an angle on the corner, so the other pieces wouldn't overlap at the corners)



^^ Glued on the other 3 railings ...



^^ And finished by gluing on the cut out floor tile. I do realize that this prevents the stack-ability of the boxes somewhat, but I plan on only placing a short-walled box onto a high-walled box, and it should still fit.

That is an awesome solution! I also have a big stack of mat board hanging around (I used it in my roll arena) so now I think I know what I'll be using it for!

Mat board is something I have yet to pick up. I really should at some point. It has so many valuable uses based on what I have seen on the boards here. Thanks for sharing!

Glad you found this useful; it actually stacks nicely too. I put a short-wall box on top of a high-walled back, and it nests well inside. (Looks pretty cool too )
