Hi all,

I'm extremely new to this paper craft side of things, and I am currently looking at buying a new printer. After pouring over the forums thus far, I've come down to either spending the $$$ and buying an Epson Artisan 837, or a HP 8500a.

However I'm under the impression the 8500a is full of issues and doesn't print straight. Can anyone confirm or deny this, or recommend something that is current (and is not going to cost me a kidney to purchase ).

As for printer, I have the Epson Artisan 835 and love it. I can't speak to either specific printers you asked about, though. Maybe you can go with a test print at a local store? I wish you best of luck.

I bought the HP 8500a a few months ago when Staples was getting the 8600 in and I managed to pick it up for $100. I thought for a hundred bucks it's worth a shot. It has individual in cartridges which is what I was looking for because I wanted to upgrade from my Lexmark all-in-one printer.

I have had a couple of discussions with people here on the forum about printer accuracy and with all the print tests and measurements that I have done, I have found it to be extremely accurate.

Now I would not want someone to go out and buy something just on my recommendation, but I have had nothing but good luck with it. It handles 110lb card stock with no problems.

So long story short it has been one of the best $100 investments that I have had.

Any other questions that you may have about it, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them.

I have an HP BusinessJet printer don't remember the version number, but it also has a separate cartridge for each color. I've had it for about 5 years or so and have used it so much that I've already had to replace one of the print heads, and have had another head go bad. The great thing about it is that they're really easy to replace!

Oh and I'm in the process of cleaning the rollers because of running so much card through it, it's not pulling the paper correctly anymore!

Well after much consideration (and much to my wife's dismay ) I've decided to go for the Epson Artisan 730 (as the 837 just adds Fax after much research). It'll do everything I want it to, plus the few bits and pieces she wants it to do too.

After I buy the printer, the next step will be the rest of the tools needed to get my ancient metropolis going (then to play Mordheim through it!).

On a side note, is it bad that I want to buy the Deadfall sets just to build a steampunky, victorian west town? Not that I can use it in any of the games I play (I just think it would look awesome).

So to update you all, I go to place an order for the printer and ...... my wife says I can buy a dedicated WWG printer (therefore doesn't need the scanner or airprint, both of which were features she wanted).

So now I'm looking at the Brother HL-3040 (which I can get for about Aus$150). Does anyone know what sort of card stock or cover stock this can take??

Also, is there anything else I should look at (not a multifunction) that can be recommended??
