I'd like to see this done non-TLX. The maiden is a display piece, I'd like another.

Scott was in charge of this project but he's been busy with other life issues. It's by no means dead though, in fact I've been thinking about how great it might be to make this into a tangible product.

Sooner: a conjunction of 'soon' (WWG slang for "it will take a while") and 'er' (an expression of uncertainty or doubt), meaning "It could take a while, but even that might be optimistic.'

Whatever the timing and format, no doubt it will be great.

Going over to the local print shop to get started on my modular maiden ghost-ship. Hope grump approves! (fingers crossed)

User builds / kitbashes should be fine. Shouldn't really matter, if you do get it in the wrong place one of the mods will move it. I'm really interested to see what you've come up with!

I've trouble shooting things in my notebook long enough, finally cut templates last weekend. Looking forward to my quick small ships for pics and finishing with the large catamaran. I will be taking suggestions on sail variations and captains quarters for the big ships. Converting to airships is my last step. Qpony!! help!

My like or dislike in this regard has no bearing - it is for your own use.

But, in my not at all humble opinion, the Maiden looks best as an actual model. The hull can have a proper curve to her prow, and she doesn't need columns for supporting her inner walls and hull bits. She is just a fantastic looking model, and years later, she is still my favorite of the WWG models.

Keeping those wonderful bits of the maiden is my number one priority. Just hoping you might appriciate the "same-ness" when compared to the origonal. Will build it for myself first and see what happens.

Ive been anxiousley awaiting news on this project for way too long.

I just started building The Maiden. Its coming along nicely so far, but my robocutter has spoiled me working on other projects and I wish that set had GSD files.

Hopefully this new one will be 100% robocutter ready.

The Maiden is one of the most complex builds that WWG has done to date, but it is oh, so sweet. The number of times I have blathered about the model on other forums....

The Maiden is an amazing piece of art. I would love to have a fleet of them. It would also be cool to have a tangible version of it for sale as well...

This project seems to have been forgotten & no new updates for some time. Is this project still under development or has it been scrapped?

There were a few freelancers/part-timers working at various projects and due to their other commitments, they could not dedicate the required time to finish out these projects.

To get us out of a perpetual tease state, we decided to pull all projects that had a low commitment threshold from their respective designers. They aren't off the books completely mind you (there's always a possibility that the original designer might find some time), they just aren't showing on the WIP meter unless they are a 100% sure thing.

Maybe a Kickstarter....

Been considering Kickstarting a couple oddball projects. The beauty of Kickstarter (or in my case Indiegogo) is that you can pitch wacky ideas with relativity low risk. I have loads and loads and loads of wacky ideas!

I believe the real value of crowdsourcing comes from the market information you gain. Yeah, it's awesome that you can get enough money to launch the project -- but that would be a lot less awesome if you had no idea whether anyone wanted it. With Kickstarter/Indiegogo/et al, you get customers actually paying their money, so you clear away the window shoppers who say they like everything, but then don't buy.

I think with your strong community, the niche nature of your business, the visual richness of the product, crowdsourcing would be a huge win. Much of it would be preorders, but that would be ok -- you'd know exactly how interested everyone is in an idea.

Please do this! (and I have no affiliation with any of these sites).

Truth be told, the WorksBooster program was essentially this but with some unique sprinkles on the side which made it our own. We've had to pull back our ambition there a bit but it will very probably see a rebirth at IndieGoGo.

I love this idea and plan to be a backer from the start.

As I'm sure you're well aware, you have to be careful not to overdo it! Right now, you've got more projects than time in the world to do. Kickstarter projects, I bet, are harder to pull off of the 'ol "In The Works" list than those that people haven't pre-paid for!

That being said, an Obsidian Gale kickstarter? Sign me up! I haven't used my Maiden, but I LOVE it! And I'll gladly pre-pay (and then some) for a great set of standees! hint hint

I'm personally not speaking to the Obsidian Gale as a Kickstarter since its not a project that I have a personal stake in.

The real truth is that contrary to having "too many" projects the current market is forcing us to focus on a narrow set of projects which are reasonably low risk. Kickstarter/IndieGoGo are perfect candidates for that kind of thing.
