That is just the coffee table with my collected supplies. Believe me, the desk is none too tidy where I will be working.

I really loved (and hated) building the Maiden. I only hated that I was so afraid of messing up a step that I really slowed myself down to a crawl. I love how it turned out. I look forward to seeing another one built here!

First off, I'd like to say the 2 adhesives pictured are doing great so far. The spray mount is fantastic. Just make sure you want it the first time, because it is not moving once it is down. You only have to spray one surface and you get a solid bond. Not done much with the Elmers Xtreme yet, but so far so good. I couldn't find any suppliers online for the spray mount, but I picked it up at Micheal's.

So far I have completed mounting the decks to the foamcore. Only one screw up so far, and that was putting the deck down before putting my transparency down first. Oops. But was quick to pull up the deck and slide the transparency down before the bond was set yet. That piece is probably the only one that is pulling away some from the foamcore. Other than that, it is coming right along. More updates to come.

So the base of the hull is completed. Damn, you don't realize how big it is going to be until you get all of that together. No major flub-ups putting it together. The seams aren't as clean as I would like, but I chock that up to builder error. Still it is looking fantastic. More to come.

Still looking great. What kind of paper/printer are you using. At a guess I would say a laser printer with a photo paper, but I could be wrong.

Also, make sure and edge beforehand. It will make your life much easier.

Wow, I just got the size of the Maiden into my mind. That thing is huge.

Unfortunately, my Maiden files are still zipped on my H/D. The Inn seems to be taking all my time. Not to complain though.

So I have the main hull done and the Stern Castle. Putting in the support members on the main hull was a bit of a challenge. Since the walls want to bow out, they pull the base of the members up off the deck. So I made 2 temp cross members to keep the walls from bowing out. They are just folded/glued crap from the cut outs, then notched at 7". They worked like a charm and the supports are all solid now. I am doing better at edging as I go along, but as you can see, still miss some stuff. But this is my first major build and I am learning a lot as I go. Next to tackle is the Forecastle.

Whoa! That looks really cool. One day I am going to have time to build that. But it won't be this day. Too involved with the Friar. Streets are holding on in the wings, with Thoumonts begging for another go round since it was really short changed last time. Still, the Maiden is a beautiful ship.

I do have one question, and this may sound so lame because I have been around for a bit. I know what a transparency is, but only in theory. I have never used them and have never seen them where I buy my paper (Sams). What exactly is it and where do you get it, and how do you use it? I told you it was a pretty lame question, but I have never went there and I saw you used it on the rigging of your Maiden, which I think is awesome.

Transparencies are those sheets used for overhead projectors. You will probably have to go to an office goods store for it. You have to be a bit careful what you pick up. Some are only meant to be printed on one side, others both. This was all done with color laser, so not sure how good transparency sheets are with inkjet.

And answer to your question earlier Talae, this is all printed with color laser on 80lb cardstock, except for the transparencies of course.

So the fuser does not melt the transparencies?

Not that I have ever seen.

I have, and it's not pretty. It's not cheap to fix either - melting plastic is not something you want in the middle of a running laser printer.
Use transparencies that are rated for laser printers/copiers and all is well. Use ones that aren't and ... well, lets just say that you'd rather you'd got the ones that were.

That is the best idea ever for getting those things to dry properly. Mine is all wobbly and bowed outward and I couldn't get the support members to stay in place. I am in your debt! Or I will be when I finally get around to renovating and finishing up my sad little half-completed, severely warped Maiden.

Not a lot done, just finished the Fore Castle. No issues with this part so far, though will probably have to do some paring down at the front of it to fit the hull. Will see after I get the rest done and what adjustments I have to make. Start working on the masts next and see how it all goes together.
