Okay, I'm going to make my first attempt at a kitbash for WorldWorks. This is primarily a 're-skin' of the Crazy Vanka's Donair Yurt shop from the Mega Mall set with a couple of oddball piece changes to reflect the new restaurant. If you've been to a food court in the past 10 years, you've seen one of these little 'Faux Chinese food' places. That's what I'm going for here.

Progress:
* Built the Yurt shop unaltered to check the pieces
* Created new floor texture
* Created new wall texture
* New signage

Major To Dos:
* Veggie Refrigerator
* Cola Dispenser Machine
* Flat Grill

Major Issues:
* Need to figure out how to 'grunge' the edges to make it fit more within Mayhem
* When textured are finished, need to replace them in page templates...

Okay, realized that my textures look good but do NOT fit in with the Mayhem mall set. Also, I discovered that the 'flats' have a Chinese Restaurant frontage with them. So, I'm putting aside Fien Chow for the moment and going to kitbash a full shop of the Golden Dragon from Mall parts first. I'm going to try to get this done today or tomorrow as my family hordes the other machines for Skyrim.

I was going to submit this one, since it's either taken from Varkas's shop, or my own artwork and modelling... but I see that the Mall is on the 'replacement' list for becoming a TerrainLinX piece. If this is the case, then would submitting this be a waste of time? Inquiring minds want to know!

Well, this is the completed rough. Things I learned:

1) A lot of my scrap paper is utter crap for construction work. The fibers practically liquify with the slightest amount of glue.

2) 0.15" is likely the smallest fold I can get away with.

3) The purple floor is awful. That definitely won't be staying.

4) My fingers absolutely hate me.

I'll probably want to do a revision of this shop over the next week or so, though it came out a lot better than I originally hoped. I'll definitely replace the floor tiles outright (likely cribbing from Armory to have done with it), and tweak the sneeze guard (which comes up a little too short on the outer curve).

So, whilst I'm waiting for an answer, I'm going to make "Diablo Loco" for poops and grins, based on similar construction to this kit, with a few different pieces here and there (probably making use of a Taco Bell style kitchen island set-up).

Ugh, screwed up and forgot ONE texture on the underside of the menu sign. Grr... Otherwise, this came out pretty well as an experiment. I was going for a cross between Chipotle's minimalist look and a 1970s Taco Bell (hence the lettering design). The build design is a little different, with the mid-wall split between the menu board and the serving island. Also added a variant of the drink machine as well as a raised microwave suite.

Modern isn't really my thing, but this is definitely some decent work. Keep 'em coming.

For a 'Fantasy Food Court' I think the only 'cold' food you could logically get by with is a Shaved Ice stand; just need an 'icebox'. As this would likely just be in the market square, I see the vendors having carts or stalls. There are both a covered food push cart and a kiosk in ArenaWorks props, and a vendor stall in VillageWorks props. Hope this helps.

I have to agree this looks great, I would say see if they will release if for the old Mayhem Mall set, and then maybe whoever is working on the TLX version could also fit a TLX version of these in.

These food court "restaurants" are too good to be kept to yourself. These like your arcade machines would be perfect in many of the Mayhem Mall builds.

Well, I've asked in the TLX forum, but I'm starting to think Denny et al are refusing to talk to me. For my own amusement, though, I've made 300 dpi versions of these textures from scratch and made a few TLX templates. I'll probably redo the Gold Dragon as a TLX kit next week...



My thought, proposal, whatever, was to redo the basic Mega Mall set, then make a few add-ons as time allows. Another thought was to make each store seperate with variant walls allowing it to be either part of the Mall or stand-alone.

So, for instance, the Arcade could have the 'outer' walls match the Mayhem Mall, or have one of the Brownstone walls to fit in with Downtown. Diablo Loco would either have outer walls match the mall, or its own exterior walls as a stand-alone fast-food restaurant. That may make either package way too big, though... depends on what everyone here wants to do, I guess.

The answer is Yes, to everything all in one package, be it a Mall Insert or a Stand Alone set. Then again I am greedy, so to quote Queen "I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now."

Is it wrong that I just pictured the Queen singing like Freddie Mercury?

Anyway, I made some test 3" TLX walls today for Vankas. Nothing I really want to show yet, particularly since I haven't made either the posts or anchors either. The only issue is one I have recurring when doing stuff for Mayhem, which is to make it dirty. I haven't figured out a good way to get the weathering to match. :S The test walls are plain Vanka interiors with a 'default mall' interior or a 'default brick' exterior from the Mayhem Apartments set (since it most matched the downtown store look).

Jaynz, I just want to say that I love what you're doing and after all the work and effort you've put into your various projects I do hope they are accepted as kitbashes and become available to purchase. Anything to do with Mayhem City automatically attracts my attention and as Eldorf said, "I want it all, and I want it now!" Best of luck in all your endeavours.

Golden Dragon, Revision 1
Okay, going to try to keep the Diablo Loco and Golden dragon updates to this thread. I just completed the revision to Golden Dragon for resubmission. This improves the props a little bit, and makes them a little more 'Mayhem Mall' friendly. Also added an 'ice tea' maker to the props (replacing the second drink machine).

The ice tea maker says "Mr Ken's Passion Fruit Gourmet Tea"... but it came out really, really small. Alas. One in-joke down the drain.

Is Mayhem Mall supposed to be a zombie game, or a post apocalypse? I like the stuff, but don't play anything but fantasy. In the old days I did Sci-fi, but I had to focus because of all the stuff I build. I don't have enough room for everything.

The basic build is more 'battered urban' and can be a little generic, but a lot of props go for the zombie-apocolypse look. I'm sticking more to 'urban' to allow for more campaign styles, particularly since I go for Mekton, and more anime-influenced games.

Diablo Loco - Revision 1

Well, this was an interesting redo. Most of the pieces have been reworked, often to get their geometry back in line with Vanka's. The menu board remains as it was, however. Stripped down the extra props as well and replaced them witha modestly complex, but very nice-looking, 'taco prep range', like what you would see at Taco Bell.

I'm actually pleased at this redo. It came out pretty good and looks a lot more at home with the other shops in the food court... so after these instructions are up, there are only two more food court stalls to go!

This looks really good, along with all of your other kitbashing for the Mall that I've been looking through for the last couple of hours! Is there any chance any of this will be available for us un-talented ones to download and make up to spice up our own Malls?

But I agree with you it would be nice to have.

I am revising these for official submissions. Learning the 'proper formatting' for redecos and bashes is getting to be harder than making the stores in the first place. On that note, I just put in another update to Golden Dragon with all the updated formatting notes. How that goes will determine how the rest of the food stalls will go, I suspect.
