I have been running with WWG TLX scenery for a little under a year now. I am running Pathfinder's Serpent Skull AP. Last October I ran some crossover scenarios using the Serpent Temple from SS1 - Souls for Smuggler's Shiv, and built scenery enough that I could lay out the two big combats I had planned for that Scenario. They loved it. Since then, I have been slowly building more terrain, mostly from Himmelvale Streets, as the texture works for me in my 'lost city' campaign. (I just wish it had some hanging vines that I could layer over top!)

The past two sessions, deep in an ancient ruin in the jungle, I have had the players comment on the scenery and how it really helps them visualize things. Now, as of right now, I have a 2'x3' battleboard covered with just standard anchored flooring, 5 anchored 6"x6" floors, 6 3"x6" anchored floors, a good supply of posts and walls, Some railings and stairs.

I am about 80% complete with a small Feisty Friar building, which doesn't fit in the ruined city, but I brouight it anyway, for extra terrain.

They loved it. Two of them asked if they could help make stuff (to which I said, OF COURSE). I am going to print out a bunch of floors, posts and walls, and have a terrain building party. I can always use more stuff, and they want to help me build it!

It is always great to hear that others love this stuff as much as I do. I would love to see some pics (especially in-game action shots).

the in game action shots are always good. I know people take shots with their phones. Let me see what I can come up with.

I keep meaning to take pictures of our sessions, but I always forget and my group is a shy one so I think they ignore it on purpose...

a couple more from my latest Pathfinder (Serpent Skull) game. These were taken as they explored the First Vault in Vaults of Madness.

We have swapped GM positions now. I am playing. We are playing in the Decond Darkness campaign, and are currently inside a pocket dimension hunting those who we followed in here. Not gonna name names, for those who haven't played it.

Anyway, last session, we had captired an assassin who had tried to ambush us at night. We got out of him that to get out of the pocket dimension, we needed a key, and that key was held by a certain individual, lets call him Norman. Norman, the assassin said, under magical duress, was visiting The Muse over in a music acadamy.

We had been here before, in the Prime Material Plane, when it was ruined, but the pocket dimension is a shadow of history 10000 years in the past. n We found an ambush, followed by another ambush.

We are ambushed by Demons



Two demons came out of nowhere and decided our aasimar inquisitor needed to die.

After a brief rest and repreparation, we head back down to the basement of the Acadamy of Arts and Sciences to see if the drow wizard Novlensis is down there, with the key we need to get out of this dimensional pocket before we are all destroyed. He's not, but the drow down there tell us he is at the Obstervatory...after a little interrogation.

So we go to...the Observatory


We are greeted by drow in the entrance, and several of us decide it would be fin to fight ON the table. Unfortunately, I didn't have any tables made up. That has since changed.



Moving on, we encounter a couple demons, which we make short work of.

Into the next room. It's dark, so we quietly move in. As our halfling swashbuckler moves into the room, he spies a dragon hiding on the balcony, slowly backs out of the room, whispering, "Dragon....on the balcony!" Our drunken monk (Me) walks into the room and asks the dragon "Can we talk about this?"



Unfortunately, Negotiations go bad.

Thanks! More to come! We neglected to take some with the big final battle last session, but remembered in time for the celebratory feast. I'm going to re-set things up and take some after the action shots.

Well??? Did the dragon want to talk?

I talked him into not being unfriendly, but he wanted us to bribe him to let us by. While we had some things we could have given him to get by, out-of-character, we all looked at each other and said "We haven't fought a dragon since 2nd Ed...."

So we opted for the violent option, and did fine. It was the following battle with the Troglodyte fighter, in which three of us failed our Fort saves against stench, and the ambush with the drow arcanist and drow rogues that was difficult.

OK so after the iced tea incident destroying the terrain used in the climactic battle in the boservatory, and not taking pictures, I've spend the last couple weeks making a square foot of flooring and balconies. The battle was initially done with Himmelveil floors and walls, but then I discovered the Dragon Lair set and did the floors and balconies with that. Last night I set it up with the Himmelveil walls and frowned...

Back to the cutting board! Fortunately it isn't a huge piece...

In this session, we travelled back to Riddleport. While there, several of the crime lords are interested in us. After meeting with one, we returned to our tavern, only to see the party had been crashed.



And they had the nerve to set the bar on fire...Not cool when the group contains a priest of Cayden Cailean, and a drunken monk.



We discovered that our new wizard wasn't a softie...


some photoediting was done to enhance the above photos...but in all, it's WWG terrain.

So afterwards, we tracked the drow to an island off the coast. They wanted to talk. After our drunken monk lit the guy responsible for burning our bar down on fire, we were open to listen. That sent us up to the Red Mountains. We were supposed to get a guide, but he never showed in town. We decided to head up to his cabin and find him.

First...an outdoor encounter (DANGER: Contains non-cardstock terrain with WWG terrain )



And then we found the tracker's cabin. Deadfall terrain comes in handing in a fantasy setting! I did a nice job getting the two stories made of the cabin. Now for the roof...

After saving the trapper and a couple of his kids from being defiled by half-ogres, we set off for one of twow ways into Deep Grotto. Along the way, we fought basilisks, which the photographer tried to take pictures of, but was turned to stone.

We were to enter Deep grotto through an old burial mound. The Kellid buried there was an enemy of the dwarves, and there were rumors that the dwarves had attempted to ransack his tomb. If that rumor were true, there may be a way into Deep Grotto from the dwarf tunnels. Well, we found that the dead were a little restless.



And we found that a friendly, or not so, earth elemental had made one of the tombs into his den.



Finally we met with Blackblade himself.



And then we moved on into the dwarven tunnels and found our way towards Deep Grotto, where we ran into a large guardian who stripped our rogue out of his armor very quickly.

not enough of one style of floor tile to make things really cohesive. I had a natural disaster a couple months back in which 2 sq ft of himmelvale streets were destroyed in a sudden flash flood of iced tea. So we make do. The Hinterlands tile between the stairs in the one setup, was supposed to represent water. I didn't have any Himmelvale Canals made up.

And no where near enough posts of anything other than Himmelviel Streets to do anything really large.

I gotta say I'm really impressed with how good the floors from Fiesty Friar look in a dungeon-like setting. I'm gonna have to print some of those.

These make me want to get a build going...anyone have some spare time to loan me?

Yeah they are nice. Although I am partial to Lair of the Dragon God floors.

could anyone recommend a good floor texture for caves? I have Caveworks, but not super keen on the floor texture, especially since there isn't a grid free option.

I haven't seen it up close, but Hellworks, maybe? It says there's a gridless option. Maybe it's at least a good starting point...

How are you with the clone tool? I was able to make a 6" dirt tile just from cloning pieces of Hinterland paths... It wasn't the worst thing I've ever done...

I'd have to check the ground tiles when I get home to confirm, but I remember thinking the hellworks tiles could be used for a cave with just a little work.

No it's not TLX but I assume it shouldn't be a problem for you to convert the tiles to TLX.

Hellworks was my first thought as well. Then a bash of Cliffs or Forests.

I am working on some cliffs right now, and am going to use those in the mean time, but yes, I was thinking of applying the caveworks wall textures to the Hinterlands Cliffs.
