I thought I would start a new thread to display my start with TLX.




Notes:
Edging is the difference between a paper model and a piece of artwork.
I picked up a set of double tipped "Art Markers" (that's the actual brand as far as I can tell) this past weekend at Hobby Lobby for $15.80. They were regularly ~$30, but I had a 40% off coupon. Anyone can get these coupons by signing up on the site or downloading the app. The coupons are super useful and I highly recommend them.

My wife works at print shop and they have some beautiful glossy 100 lb cardstock that is much heavier than my 110 lb cardstock. I'm going to try that on the next batch.

Is that the ramp that came with the set, or is that the ? I haven't tried the latter, but have always meant to, as the old ramps take up a lot of space.

(I should never assume people even know how to access their free kitbash stuff... enough people have not realized you can't just to go the kitbash catalog... if you haven't seen it, go to the storefront, click My Home, and under Store Account, click "My Kitbashes").

It's the ramp that came with the set. I wanted to make one of everything and I all I have left is the sign and a few walls. I have not looked at the kitbashes for this set yet, but I will check it out.

Beautiful! I also use those double-tipped markers for edging; the small tip it great for filling in the slots of the posts, and the broad tip for general edging.

I installed my CISS last night and I am incredibly pleased with the rate of production that will supply. My set is about to grow leaps and bounds.

I am going huge on this build and would like some input. I am looking to build a large modular castle to serve as a prep school (think hogwarts if they were all slytherin and ravenclaw) and was wondering what set, if any, world serve my needs?

Are you looking for TLX sets only or are you open to older sets?

I was hoping for something TLX that would look like a castle. Hard to believe there isn't one already. The west wing set would work too if it was more fantasy themed.

The Outbliette of Peril or just Himmelveil Streets could work okay as a sort of castle. The railings with the angled pieces can work like a variation on crenelations on the battlements. They're not perfect, but it gives an interesting and atypical look to your castle. My only frustration with each of those sets is that neither one has any doors in it.

Would West Wing look out of place in a high fantasy game? I can only go by the pictures on the product page and it looks pretty neutral if you use different props, but I can't be sure.

I think it would depend on your timeframe. If you are going early roman, it probably would be out of place. If you are Renaissance or post dark ages, then it should work.

There is a TLX castle in line to be built. There was a pole a year ago or so looking for what was most popular. Matt built the Egyptian set and Tomas got started on a Stable set, but broke down before finishing it. The other sets are in limbo if I guess correctly. The 3D game Denny is working on has side track most everything until he can get back here. So, I think the castle will be built, but the time frame will be stretched for a bit. Personally I am holding my breath for anything but the Led Zepplin.

I had issues with the way I originally did the set of tiles in my first post. I had to trash almost all of it and start over. I was disgusted over it and walked away from paper terrain for a while. I happy to say I am about to start this project over with a few new ideas. Expect new pictures this weekend.

Sorry to hear you had issues. My early tiles are utter poo compared to what I build now, but I still use em. They're not even *square*. Sigh. The first three sets aren't, actually!

Glad you're getting back to it. Sometimes you just gotta walk away in order to build the motivation up all over again. Best of luck with it!

My original method involved using a Xyron to make the tiles sticky on the back side. It worked beautifully until I let the tiles set connected. They stuck to the connectors. I am going to add an extra step to the process by putting a piece of paper over the exposed parts of the tile. I really love how smooth the Xyron makes things.
