No idea if anyone who's still here uses sound, but is a bunch of audio files for most occasions!

I agree, it can be a little repetitive, but generally, for the background loops like that, it's low enough to just add ambiance rather than hear the individual noises. I like the FX sounds though

Never tried it with Sonos - I just tend to use my laptop with some cheap speakers pointing at the players

I also bought into the first kickstarter & realized that I need a way to play them. I just downloaded softrope & it looks good.

Is anyone else using it? Does anyone else have something they like better?

What I like about it: Layering different soundtracks & being able to control each volume and repetition cycle. I just took a storm soundtrack & set it to repeat continuously, added a faint battle scene that repeated with a 10-20 second random delay, and a couple of moderately loud monster cries that repeated 30-60 seconds apart.

All that layered together effectively covered the repeats, and added a slightly menacing vibe to an already good storm track.

Badula, that one is very interesting. I recall they had a print and play version of those awhile back. Its a cool design. Seems pricey, though.

Can't tell you how disappointed I am in the . It LOOKS great but...wow. I was REALLY looking forward to this, but its actually MORE EXPENSIVE than Space Hulk was for LESS! $120 for a board game with 23 models. Space Hulk was $100 for 35. When your game costs more than GW, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. Even just the digital rulebook is about $15. FOR DIGITAL! I wanted to be in, but those prices are ludicrous. Not to mention, the models are plastic resin, not even injected plastic.

Agreed, I'm a big AVP fan, and those prices just left me cold.

New one from Japanime Games! The first expansino for Krosmaster Arena: . Includes a co-op game as well as all new terrain rules for ice and a new double sided board with new frozen arenas. Wish I could get all the PVC add-ons at a lower price cause...I can't pony up THAT kind of money. The ones from the previous game are supposed to be available from tournaments, but I've never seen them actually run one! I've been bugging them about it for two months with nothing to show for it.

Darkhammer has something interesting over on Indiegogo - . Might work well as an alternate Undead army for Kings of War, or a horde from the Shadowlands in Legend of the Five Rings.

The HeroQuest KS launched yesterday

They are at $300k already. Lots of speculation about the legalities. No pics of the sculpts. Complaints about the stretch goals (Monster cards should've been included in the basic game, blank cards are not something that people want to defile).

5 days left on the battle systems one posted above. So glad I popped back here, as I'd have missed this one. I've liked the look of their products for some time, and this is a tempting way to pick some up. They say £70 is their sweet spot.

Considering all the Titan and Ebbles stuff I have around, it seems like a good addition. Oh, how I wish it were Titan, as someone else said, but oh well.

On the legalities of Heroquest -

Well - Games Workshop did let the trademark lapse on the title HeroQuest (I remember when it happened over ten years ago - there was much gnashing of teeth by folks that wanted the game to come back via GW).

Hasbro Iberia has signed off on the Anniversary Edition - so Gamezone is clear in that regard. The problem kicks in with regard to the US - Hasbro Iberia is semi autonomous, and the rights in Spain (and by way of the EC the rest of Europe) does not necessarily pertain to the US - but GW is out of it in any event, it will be a matter of Hasbro US and their legal department. (And Hasbro acquired Heroquest only through their acquisition of Milton Bradley. I do not know if Hasbro proper has maintained the Trademark.)

Gamezone is not doing the Fimir, so do not have to worry about them. (If Gamezone really wanted to be jerks about it then they could call them Fomor - which is where GW got the Fimir....)

Legally... Gamezone should be fine - GW could still sue them, because GW is nuts like that, but GW would lose. (GW has tried to claim a trademark on fur, skulls, and Roman numerals, as well as lizards in Mezo-American garb and the term Space Marine....)

I can see GW trying to claim Gargoyle or some similar stupidity, but, well, that is because they are nuts. (I do not think that they will - Hasbro Iberia is bigger than they are, and just might take an interest - GW prefers to beat up on smaller companies.)

Miscommunication... Gamezone really has to work on that - English is very definitely not their native tongue, a proper translator would have done them worlds of good.

Putting the planned stretch goals in the picture, but blacked out, was confusing - they should have had a side area with the images, since they were going that route. Now that I know that those figures were blacked out I can see what else is not yet on the board, but it was needless confusion.

*EDIT* It is worth noting that Spain has a 'You Gets Whats You Pays For' trademark and copyright system - a copyright only lasts for as long as it is contracted to last. And no one renewed the copyright in Spain. (And Hasbro Iberia signed off on the rights that they no longer had, just to make it look better on paper. Quiets arguments when thine arse is armoured in paper.)

As I understand it, the CAD reasoning was because it was a recognized currency where Hasbro had let the HeroQuest trademark expire. (And Canada is one of the KS zones available)

I think they have a Canadian doing their translation, but it's really sad that that Canuck isn't more involved in the campaign.

It is also worth noting that the UK trademark for HeroQuest expires in 2015.

One of the problems with a global economy is that so many nations, including member states of the EC, have very different laws governing IP.

Among others - Spain has it set up so that you buy a copyright, in blocks of time, with the possibility of perpetual renewal for as long as you are willing to pay the fee.

The UK has a set period for Copyright, but then adds 'Crown Copyrights' to publications that they consider seminal or important enough - and those never expire.

In the US Hollywood has enough pull, especially Disney, that the copyright keeps getting lengthened, in spite of the Constitution expressly forbidding perpetual copyright in Clause 8.

Italian copyright belongs to the author, and to the author's heirs, and cannot be sold, merely licensed. (So, a game designer that writes a book will own that book, even if writing it for Games Workshop - though other IP in the work will remain the property of GW. At one time GW actively avoided having Italian editions of their work, in the mistaken belief that also covered translation....) Their copyright lasts the author's life, plus 70 years - or the life of the last surviving author, plus seventy years, in the event of a collaborative effort.

French copyright law (more accurately 'rights of the author') is in a state of flux since 2006 - when they began a massive revision of the laws pertaining to IP, adopting and adapting those of the EC. They are sometimes a trifle draconian in regards to piracy and peer to peer - even when the originator of a digital version of the work has the rights to the work. Prior to 2006 the French viewed file sharing as legal, whether or not the sharer owned the rights to that work. Take your pick of extremes....

Etc. etc. etc....

As for going on the Canadian dollar - two reasons that I have not seen bandied about, but what I consider the most likely:
1. The Canadian dollar is a heck of a lot more stable right now than that of the United States, which has shown itself vulnerable to congressional grandstanding to the tune of 24 Billion Dollars.

2. The Canadian government keeps a tighter rein on the banks in regards to international trade - so the banks are more accessible than that of the US right now. Banks in the US are... not exactly embracing the global economy.

The US is almost as bad as the UK in regards to unwillingness to properly control their banks.

If you like HeroQuest then give them a look/see. I used to be a member, but hadn't been there in over a decade - I just could not remember my old forum name, so I reregistered. (I want to say that I stopped hitting the place about the time that Warhammer Quest came out.)

I just expected to find tattered remnants on Archive.Org, but there it is, a phoenix risen from the ashes. Resurgam est!
