has anyone attempted to make their own terraclips boards?

if so.. how?

do we have templates someplace?

I *know* there is at least one other post that has some cliffs in the picture... I can't seem to find it quickly.

I have. My own templates for most every size floor, walls, and cliffs as well.

After dozens of hours work seeing how intrusive the clips look...I decided to go with Terrainlinx.
Then I seen how intrusive the anchor tabs look! LOL

So im now using a magnetic Terrainlinx system.

Has anyone made these templates available for download? I'm not looking for complete panels, just an template for the outline/cut-lines. with that I can start to use photoshop and mess around with kits I already have.

wisdomknight: I looked at the Terrainlinx system.. and sadly I don't have the skill or the temperament to put them together.. heck I attempted to make the Roll Arena.. and it looked HORRIBLE.. i got totally fed up and tossed it

You know I don't get the total and complete abandonment of WWG...

Fat Dragon is making 26k on their current kick starter and

Battle Systems™ Fantasy Dungeon Terrain (a system much like Terraclips) pulled in $304,011.46 and their SciFi set pulled in 337,071.23 (and they just sold out of all their fantasy sets made post kick starter)

And by what I understand several people have attempted to buy WWG...

as a business owner.. I don't get it at all

looking at Kickstarter there is clearly a market, if you don't want it at least sell the company for gods sake.

I think with some modifications, Terraclips can make over 300k on kick starter.. easy

Another point is I think another new Wwg terrainlinx set on kickstarter would pull in 50-80k itself. And that's without worrying about a physical product.
Kickstarter and tabletop gaming is coming a long way since WWG stopped producing.

Ya know, I think the change at WWG just happened at the worst possible time in relation to the growth of crowdfunding. If you look at Fat Dragon Games previous Kickstarters, they had a few in 2012 that drew in $5k to $10k to $16k. Not bad, but still not enough to provide for a family, much less multiples. In 2013, they had one project only, but it did $32k. Much better, but that's still at the poverty level here in the US for household income. In 2014, though, their one project did $71k. Now that's a different story. And they can take as much as a year to deliver on such a funded project--all while working on additional sets/products, too.

At the time that Denny decided to pursue the computer game idea, WWG probably wasn't really pulling in all that much with their sets. They came across an opportunity to not just provide for their families, but to also build a successful business, employing a bunch of folks full time, and with significant corporate funding. And it sounds like that has been going well for them. I don't blame them for making such a change. It's just too bad they didn't try Kickstarter before launching that project. Even a more mild success there might have convinced them to hold on a little longer and see if that could grow.

Don;t be too hard on the guy - all his time is being taken up by something that is far bigger (and he is even more passionate about) than WWG. With a young family and WWG barely registering as a rounding error relative to CloudheadGames it's not surprising he hasn't got a lot of bandwidth to manage the sale or re staffing of WWG.

That said, I sure hope he gets this sorted out soon...

Here is what I understood from various discussions. Note that I could have interpreted all wrong, so don't take what I say for granted...

Concerning Terrclips : This is a partnership. Denny was willing to expand the brand but couldn't do it without the agreement (and money) of his partner, for whom the product was only a side product.
That is why the didn't expand it more, and why it is not possible to convert TLX products to TCP...

Concerning KS : From what I understood, it is linked to WWG being canadian. They had to use Indigogo instead of KS, which doesn't have the same audience. To use KS, they had to create a new company : Cloudhead Games, which is, I suppose, registered in the US...
Now, KS is open to Canadian companies (since september 2013), but it may be (is) too late for WWG...

I used matte board, check dickblick.com for Crescent brand..its the cheapest.
I peel the white layer off, helps match the thickness of the terraclip boards.
If not its a bit too snug of a fit.

I cut it with a regular utility blade.
Replace the blades often, it really helps.

I just don't know.
I doubt you can, but an email to the right person can't hurt I guess.

So...

I got my buildings and streets last night and as I was popping out the tiles my wife had a flash of insight

instead of scanning the tiles and making a template... scan the punch out sheets!

so this weekend I'm going to give it a shot... my goal, create blank (no art) templates so people can make their own terraclip boards

think I'm going to focus on walls and the like 1st...

thinking of going with TLX for base boards though, by what I see I think TLX just does it better

makes me wonder if there is a hybrid design I can come up with...

oh if I had 10 more hours in a day

So

Proof of concept, I made a single 10" x 16" board... and it held mini's quite well (I tested it with a mix of metal reaper and plastic d&d figs)

the measurements for the clip grooves seem rather forward... and in Inches.

sadly I have been swamped at work all week.... when I have a chance I plan on making a few templates with measurements in Cad as well as templates in photoshop... blank templates that allow anyone to plug in there own art and print away.

I pay also do a few photo's and a quick "how to guide"

but again.. time won't give me time (que music)

So I FINALLY got around to creating a basic template for terraclips...

its in Photoshop and consists of gray boxes with white cut out sections

I did not use any art (like I said gray boxes) so I doubt I'm stepping on any creative toes

I expanded the sizes available beyond the basic 3x3 and 6x6 sizes...

I include 9x9, 9x12, and 9x15

All set up on an 11x17 sheet.

Next I plan to make 3",6",9",12",15" wall templates (both short and tall)
