Well I started recently, in conjuction of winding down my earlier weekend habits (turning 30 makes one more easily tired when out clubbing). I've always been into fantasy/sci-fi on and of since iI was a kid. That's mostly my mothers doing introducing me to Tolkien etc.

I've always loved playing computer games and a friend recommended Baldur's Gate a couple of years ago..............

Well, turned 50 this past March. RPGs I went through included the original Traveler series, James Bond, Twilight 2000, Star Trek, but never really found players for most. D&D players we ran into on our first tour in Germany turned us off from it as they were the extreme side of fanatical. If there was a house rule from some old Dragon magazine, even if the wife and I had never seen it, it became law. Then with our kids, we tried to get them involved in family gaming time with one of the later D&D starter sets, even trying the limited run of He-Man rpg, but the kids figured out if mom and dad liked it, it wasnt cool. So, my main use for WWG products is WHFB, WW2 minis, Gaslight, a little medieval minis gaming (Revenge rules or just discovered Chipco Fantasy Battles and Days of Knights). If I can find something the wife and I can agree on, we may yet end up with FL - we love the looks of it, just cant figure out how we would use it. That was when I found Laserblast, and I am still kicking that around as minis rules rather than an rpg.

(Gads, too many years in the Army - still think of RPG as Rocket Propelled Grenade - always have to stop and think before responding to those initials.)

I havent played the infantry game, but have enjoyed the ship minis, Sky Galleons of Mars. I think this was in its heyday while I was last in Germany and it was big in the PX store in Stuttgart, but I wasnt looking for fantasy then, I was hooked on Harpoon modern naval minis. Lots of SGOM players are begging Frank Chadwick to bring out the line again.

Lots of GASLIGHT players use the rules for the Mars environment, as well as various European wars, wars in Africa, South America, shoot, just about everyhere. I'm kinda hooked on American Civil War by Gaslight, myself. I can have a few squads of regulars, with a squad of steam riflemen and an officer with an electro-pistol all thrown in, supported by my section of steam tanks, facing off against a Reb Electro-Canon, fire-rifles, and steam jump troops. Great stuff.

Ah Harpoon... The first time I played it both navies were blown out of the water before they made it to the table. Cruise missiles are, ummm, a bit extreme... After that we played with conventional armaments only.

Sky Galleons is a great game, I am glad that Space: 1889 is back in print.

The Auld Grump, the end of GDW was so depressing...
