Hi guys,
I was just sitting here thinking about all the great sets Denny has produced since the beginning of WW (obligatory praise!) and the different ways to use them, and I got to thinking about the following question - when it comes to rpgs, how do YOU use Worldworks?
Do you use them to model pre-conceived dungeons, villages etc from things like D&D modules? Or do you design your own dungeon/cave using WW sets first and then write the adventure/draw the map?
Right now I'm planning on doing both; I'm kicking off an old Red Box Basic D&D Campaign with a couple of newbie rpg friends, and I plan on using WW for the already designed castle (and also now the castle interior using the IW sets!) and dungeon, then probably designing my own lower level cave complex using CW (there are no maps or stats for it, just a couple of staircases going down....
Just curious as to how other people playing rpgs use the sets.

I mainly use WorldWorks with written RPG campaign modules, although I've designed scenarios around WorldWorks pieces as well. I end up mixing elements from ALL the WorldWorks sets on a regular basis, (as you've probably seen in the pictures I've posted!).
The WorldWorks models actually gives me a lot of ideas when designing the scenarios, simply because I think of how to incorporate models into scenarios and thus make it more interesting. It's not only cool-looking... it's a creative tool as well! :-)

Bob,
Funny you should mention the old red box set (as per other post somewhere) I'm reworking these rules to make a D&D/Minis game and my first project was to build a set for the "Keep of the Borderlands" adventure.

Heh... I got rid of my old red box D&D, mainly because I had the whole set in the hardcover "D&D Rules Cyclopedia". It was a pretty nice complete book for playing basic D&D.
Of course, I'm a Savage Worlds Fanboy (tm) now! Simple rules combined with miniatures play. How can you go wrong? :-)

Actually I have the Cyclopedia too (plus all the boxed sets, gazetteers, modules etc); my biggest problem is time and I decided (rightly or wrongly we will find out as time goes by) to start with the red box as there is nothing in it beyond what will be needed for those initial levels and I wanted to keep things simple at this point. Basic D&D is the system behind my favourite rpg campaign of all time (see the rpg section for an extensive dissertation :)) and I guess in a way I'm trying to recapture that enjoyment for my new players.
I've DM'd AD&D 1st, 2nd and 3rd Editions in the past but when we tried to knock up some characters for 3rd after a gap of not even looking at it of over a year they were completely overwhelmed by all the possibilities and I couldn't handle creating characters for them at the same time - so halfway through we just said 'sod it' and I pulled the red box off the shelf.
To answer your question, Avon, I'm probably going to run the sample adventure in the DMs book to begin with (I printed out all the bits I need to make the 'castle' with IW, not sure how to do the dungeon section, either with DW or some other 2-D floorplans, maybe 'create' a third level as suggested using CW) and I've been carrying around the ubiquitous B2 and also B3 (a pet favourite of mine for some unknown reason) in my briefcase all week to read up on for the next step.
Should be fun! I'm going through a bit of a retro phase right now after 3E overload and I pulled out Gangbusters, Star Frontiers, Gamma World, Timemaster, Chill recently from the days when the whole game came in a box with maps, counters and all kinds of play aids. I'm even thinking of running some 1st Edition AD&D when we've had enough Basic and doing those classic modules from scratch.
I plan to use WW to help make these games an experience to remember!

Well, I have been out of the RPG world for a few years, but am now getting back in. I used to buy all the Castle, towns and villages, and anything I could find for fold-up paper models. It's great to see them here online now. And so much variety all in one place is awesome( ok. praise over
I will be using these in a Dragonlance campaign set after the War of Souls. This is the place I left DM'ing. Cause the 5th age SAGA rules were lame (and I wanted to rol dice dang'it!). Now that t has come back to where it belongs, I am more than happy to get back in.
So far I have been prepping small areas from the books. I use villageWorks for doing Solace, but am having trouble on how I should do the Vallenwood trees that some of the houses sit in. If you could help with this Denny, any advice would be great.
Also wil be attempting to create the Tower of High Sorcery at Waywreth, and some dungeons that wil be more set piece events.
I love to use models in a grand event in the game, but avoid it in the beginning of dungeon crawls cause I dont want the players to see what's up ahead. If anyone can help with that, I would love to hear opinions.
Also if anyone knows where I can find draconian minis for sale that would be awesome too!
