This is entirely compatible with hexes, and it looks a lot better for any kind of man-made setting.

An excellent suggestion. I would love to hear everyone elses thoughts on this modification. Would it work across the board with most systems?

My first immediate "knee-jerk" reaction is that such a thing can be easily done for oneself with a bit of creative editing in a paint program post-purchase, and that it would add no value whatsoever for me.

However (especially for the outdoorsy, due out somewhere along the line TerrainWorks), if you can whip out a second version of the same ground piece with hex grid instead of square, and if it were basically "thrown in for free" (not cutting out something else for it to be there), I could see it as attracting a somewhat larger audience.

You're probably right Andorax. When ExteriorWorks comes out I'll probably include a hex grid as well as the standard grid. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd like to add that ground pieces without any markings would be a plus for those of us miniature gamers that play rules that include guessing ranges. Not that any of my friends would count the squares *koffkoff* to determine range. I assume that the hex and or square markings are added after the basic piece so that there would literally be no work to adding in pieces sans markings.

In the same vein I also play standard rpgs and miniatures rules where the square (and hex for that matter) markings come in handy. To my knowledge the floor pieces from Pubs and Inns was the only set to contain both unmarked, lightly marked and heavily marked masterboard tiles. I really liked this feature of P&I. My preference, btw, was for the lightly marked pieces where I do not use the unmarked. The lighter marks are less intrusive to the visual effect of the terrain than are the heavy marks.

A valid point. I will do my best to include all three features in future sets: Hex, Normal Grid and Unmarked. Hopefully that will satisfy varying play styles.

You can do a lot with adobe acrobat other than straight pictures. It might be possible to have a single ground image with no grid, and have an option to superimpose a grid or a hex over the image. Wouldn't work for everything, but would be great for outside areas

I second the motion.. Tiles with no grid, square 1", hex, and off center squre.

With that.. you become more compatible with more games. I have lots of square grid stuff aside from WW. But interested in converting to hex or off center (the same movement wise).

hex is easier to manage ranged attacks.

Funnily enough I was going to ask whether you could include hexes with Arenaworks, as I have several Gladiator style mini games that use hexes, and of course so does GURPS. Any chance of pulling this off?

I am definitely all in favour of all three styles being in future releases; hexes, squares and none. Whether you use actualy hexes or offset squares doesn't matter to me, whatever 'works' best.
