I have a question as to which sets work best together as far as compatibility of scale. I'm not talking about the 1" vs 1.5" grid, but the size of the structures.

I've heard that the buildings from Village Works are smaller than those of some of the newer sets. Are there any other sets that may not match each other?

For example, does Cave Works match Gothic Realms? Does Village Works match CWU? etc.

For similar heights and wall thicknesses, you can make some easy transitions between CaveWorks, Gothic Realms, Castles & Keeps, and Pubs & Inns. Also, you can use interior walls from the Maiden.

CastleWorks Ultimate can also benefit from linking to these sets, since the buildings' walls are thin, too.

VillageWorks uses 2" tall walls, but no interiors, and kinda smallish size buildings. Good for the backdrop of a battle, but having a 6" x 6" building next to a gigantic Pubs & Inns structure is a little jarring. (Himmelveil should address these issues, by making a cohesive fantasy city layout)

Skull Cove is flexible enough to look good paired with almost anything. ArenaWorks is more of a stand-alone setting, so no problems there, either (you can easily blend it with other stuff for a variety of set ups).

Chunky Dungeons is really the only set that's out of place with the rest. Once MiniChunk comes out, it will be easier to get away with (as long as you can get past the thin-to-thick wall transitions).

These are for fantasy sets, of course. All of the SpaceWorks sets work beautifully together.

Urban Mayhem also uses thin walls, so you could re-use some textures from the fantasy sets, but the walls are taller (3").

When it comes down to it, you can mix & match anything if you don't mind a little kitbashing!

Combining Village Works with Interior Works is great if you want to recreate a village from a japanese console RPG, however.

My guess... If Cave Works ever gets "Ultimized", it's not going to be any time soon! As far as i know, this is not on the radar yet, and there's so many projects still stacked up that it could take a few years for something like this to come out (if ever).

And even if a CaveWorks Ultimate does come out at some point, chances are you'll still be glad to have the old "CaveWorks Classic" to add unique features and diversity. I personally haven't regretted getting the Classic CastleWorks and DungeonWorks, even though I already had CWU and InteriorWorks. And in retrospect, I would have loved to have bought those Classic when they came out, even knowing that CWU and InteriorWorks were on the horizon a few years down the line...


PS: Not sure I would label Gothic Realms "DungeonWorks Ultimate". It's really the two InteriorWorks *plus* GR that retired DW Classic. I always tend to think of DW Classic as being the InteriorWorks to CW Classic's exteriors.
