I'm now well into my build of a Firefly class spaceship, and I thought I'd post an update as well as ask, as usual, for more advice.

First, I solved my problem with the transparent catwalks in the cargo hold thanks to Robbie's suggestions of using Mel's stairs:



Printing out a card version, and a transparent version, and sandwiching one between the others works very well (Aleph's tip). The glue here worked fine.

However, after all that, I decided to go with a straight card version for simplicity, adding some rust splatter to Mel's set to make it fit in better with the First Light/Mars Station sets.

So here is where I've got to:

The biggest headache proved to be putting the front up on a platform, which was fine for the cargo hold. But it meant adding a half inch to all the other rooms, stairs and doors in the back end. The Medbay got rebuilt 3 times! You can also see that I'm going to have trouble adding an outer skin to the Firefly. Anyone know where anywhere in the SF kits there's a chunk of metal texture at least 7cm high?

My next stage is the passenger rooms at the back. This will be a lot of kitbashing Has anyone got any tips for adding sideways sliding doors? A source for oriental textures? A way of overlaying a grid onto carpet? Oriental room dressing?

It's nice looking so far! Keep up the good work and keep posting pictures; they help the rest of us get inspiration! Or at least I get inspiration!

Very, very nice. Very true to the real design, too (unlike some of us *ahem* that cheat and do our own model). I love the step and the windows into the medlab, and the catwalks are great.

The only thing I'd say: needs more pipes.

Finally finished the back end of this Firefly, and I'll probably not manage the next deck until after Xmas. This is how it turned out:

Lots of scratch textures in the passenger rooms, and sliding doors made from Mars Station frames with Tavern Interiors doors. The doors are wobblier sliding sideways, wide vertical runners help a bit. Putting an extra tab at the top, so the yellow-and-black strip is 4 card thickness instead of 2 card thick helps even more.

The cream leather and burgundy panels I made for the rooms look more like timber and daub on printouts, but I decided I liked it anyway.

Note the extra piping, as suggested! Now I just need to add the metallic texture to the outside...

Although I'm told there are some bigger versions of the same graphics in the GM's screen. I haven't bought that.
