Are there any plans for an adventure using The Maiden of the High Seas and/or The Legend of Skull Cove?

The Auld Grump, just got an email from a friend who purchased the Maiden yesterday.

I would love to write one myself, however, have your friend check out The Maiden Voyage module. Great mod. I did a review of it on rpg.net. Do a google on it.

Oh, this wouldn't be for my friend, this would be for me! My friend doesn't intend to use the models for gaming at all, but wants them as decorations. His buying the Maiden just reminded me that I wanted to ask about this.

Also, you could adapt the Broadsides and Parties skirmish rules for a quick battle with minis and it would give you an excuse to build another model!

Ooohhhh, Broadsides and Boarding Parties! Been a while since I had THAT out of the closet! Great game, and I agree that it would be usable as rules. Another set would be Blood & Swash, Thunder & Plunder, by the same guys that did Gaslight. Great skirmish and brawling rules, with charts that would give you combat from the early pirate days of the 1600s through the boarding actions of naval combat in the American Civil War. Only thing it doesnt have is the actual ship movement stuff, but once you get into boarding range, it doesnt matter that much anyway.

You could always run 50 Fathoms.

For D20, though I have others I am not using them right now.

Seas of Blood, Very simple system, trading rules, nifty monsters, PrCs. The only D20 supplement that I have ever worn out.

Twin Crown, excellent at gathering dust. (I haven't used it once in the 4 years I've owned it.)

Skull & Bones, Piratey goodness, two scenarios prepared, none yet run. It is on the list. More complex ship rules based on Seas of Blood

Corsair, based on the rules in Seas of Blood and Skull & Bones. More complex, but what I am likely to use in the S&B adventures, plus it is a seperate book that can be passed around the table.

Ships & The Sea, Again based on Seas of Blood (which seems to have become the default for D20 Naval engagements). Parts of this are again going into my S&B scheming.

Seafarer's Handbook, I am swiping elements, but sticking to SoB based systems.

Strongholds & Dynasties, not ship based but has a land combat and management system that is compatible with the Naval combat and trade rules in Ships & the Sea.

Rules wise... I think I am well prepared. I have run/played two 6 ship engagement using Corsair, combat was ssslllooowww, which in this case is not a complaint. Cannon take time to load, so you get a shot from any given gun every 20 rounds or so. A lot of the time is spent jockeying for position and in general you roll fire rather than try for broadsidesl. Though the people I was playing against let me get into position so that I could keep pounding them with broadsides, while they only had a few plinkers. I had the advantage, I was one player, they were a commitee, and the loudest voice was overly cautious. Weird as it sounds, being overly cautios can be as lethal as being incautious. Each side had 3 ships, small, medium and large. It was fun, but then again I liked Wooden Ships & Iron Men...

Trying to do that with models of the Maiden would have required a gymnasium, we used the Happy Meal... err... Pirates of the Spanish Main ships for models. (One of those games where I wonder 'what were they thinking?')

So I wasn't looking for systems, but rather was hoping that adventures were in the works that would have more goodies for Seaworks.

I hear Savage Worlds handles mass combat pretty well.

Could the ship movement and conflict rules of Broadsides and Boarding Parties be combined with the boarding party part of this this game?

Or even Mordheim rules?

What do you think?

After seeing yesterday King Kong what I want is an expansion for Skull isl...er...Coven...yes...I put the big monkey and Denny the setting...What a wonderfull film !

Can't guarantee anything, but it is *possible* that one of the modules down the road will focus on SeaWorks in all its glory. Nothing currently in production, but we've been hashing out some long-term plans in our secret council chambers, and the Maiden and SeaWorks have come up.

That's great to hear, but in the meantime, if I built two Sea Maidens and used the ship movement rules of Broadside and Boarding Parties . . .okay, scracth that . . .

Does the Savaga Worlds allow for a simple mass combat with a permanment stat sheet for the game? Hmmm, I could adapt Heroscape rules. Maybe turn the falling rules into the swinging rules. Hmmmm.

LOL! You've learned the words of summoning! What can I say, it's my kinda game.

We had a baby girl in October so I've been a little out of the loop. Things are levelled out nicely now so I should be more active. Maybe I can actually get some building in at some point too!

Maybe it's a good thing the new fantasy stuff hasn't been released; it would just taunt me from my hard drive.

Anyone ever tried Stormwrack?

I was interested in it last year but I never had the spare cash to get it. Now that i'm building the Maiden, I'm thinking about getting it.

I've looked it over, but am not sure I'm going to buy it. I was interested in finding something to use in my fantasy game, but so far really haven't been happy with what's out there.

Course, I think Stormwrack is the closest I've come to finding something I like though.

Stormwrack is an environment book and not an adventure. Goes in line with the Frostburn and Sandstorm. All three are great reference books for those who do not want to spend time coming up with ideas for environments.

I definately think it would be cool to have 3-4 sea fairing adventures for the Maiden and Skull Cove.

Of course there is the Freeport setting by Green Ronin that I think would go smashingly well with Skull Cove.

Just IMHO.

Stormwrack should have been their first. The rules for hot and cold environments were sufficient to hold off for a while, but they really never gave watery environments enough attention/consideration, despite it being the lifeblood of any pseudo-medieval world. Even the quick two-page summary of underwater rules in the 3.5 DMG just didn't cut it.

I wouldn't call Stormwrack a *must* have, but I rank it pretty high, and #1 among the environment books...for usefulness and need alone.

And yes, it comes in really handy if you have Maiden/Skull Cove.

If you have StormWrack, I'd be inclined to say that the Galley (page 100) best fits the statistics of the Maiden, though the Maiden has no oarbanks and is three-masted (thus it ought to have 3 Rigging Sections).

Thanks for the insight. Since my campaign is probably going to be around the Mysserian Sea frequently, I'll probably pick it up.. On another note, I'm halfway done with the Maiden
