I have one of those. #99613, right? However, I think the glue is runnier than the small Uhu glue pens.

The product number on the package is 99606, but the one on the pen is 99613. I haven't found it to be runnier (nor have I had any warping problems yet), but I generally apply the glue sparingly. That is one of the things I like about the applicator; is that it is _much_ easier to control the amount of glue being applied.

FYI, this pen is 1.69 fl oz (50 ml).

Yes Aleph13, but I thought I had pointed out in my original post when I started this rant si that Denny's link no longer works, AND that the product number of 99589 has been removed from the Saunders-USA site. I wrote to Suanders and asked about the PEN and why doesn't it show up in the catalog (it used to). So I thought I would post their responce.

Is the link that Denny posted working for you (or anyone else)? Maybe they don't like people like me and banned me from seeing the glue pen that Denny recommends. I hope they don't want to ruin my fun. ;P

I purchased two packs of the ones you mentioned Aleph so I am thrilled to finally have some. I am afraid that Saunders has discontinued that model and we are all DOOMED to warping, etc.

im only the noob around here but, Ive had a bit of experience with glues across a few hobbys, anyways was wondering if anyone else had tried the UHU powerstic?

seems really nice glues quick and from what ive glued so far pretty tough, ie the cardboard seperates before the glue does, dosen't seem to warp card either, worst bits the applicator (and the cost 4.50AUD a stick), but ive been scrapping it on with the edge of an old razor blade on small areas.

How long does it last? Most glue sticks will lose their bond over time. Some more heavy duty ones can take a year. How long is your longest bond with that particular glue stick?

~ Ive only had the glue 4mths at most, those original bonds are still holding, but it should be noted there not on WWG models, (Ill watch the joins over the coming months and see if any give and report back)

~bearing in mind I sliced a big chunk off were I left it out and went shopping (kicks self), Id estimate conservativly maybe 20-30 models (about building size from CWU) from a stick? (Ill keep track and let you know)

its not your traditional gluestick type glue though, seems more similar to tarzan grip or contact cement as far as consistancy and work time goes, not sure what the active ingredients are.

I just picked up a new glue pen I am very pleased with. it's called "Elmer's No-Wrinkle Glue Pen Washable"

Sorry, no product number. The glue and the pen caps are orange. There ae two ends; a syringe-like pointy end, and a rectangular "comb-like" end for wider spreads of glue. Both ends are made of a softt rubber, allowing you to spread the glue a little more easily.


As advertized, I haven't noticed and warping with it yet. It has a pretty long dry time,. so be prepared to hold your pieces together for a while or clamp them somehow. After a little practice, it's easy to use a small amount of glue, but I have found that it doesn't pay to be stingy with the stuff. The long dry time gives you a chance to slide the pieces somewhat if they shift on you, which can happen, due to the long dry time!

One thing I really like about this pen is that if you come back to find a tab wasn't glued or burnished enough and you a have a tab coming loose, you can weasle the pointy end in between and squeeze a little more glue in there without having to peel it back.

It's easy to get goopy glue coming out of an over-glued seam at first, so get some practice in. I got it at Michael's for a couple bucks.

After checking out Deathreaver's awesome builds, I've decided to try my hand at using foamcore for the walls of my next build. I've only got one question: What glue do you suggest for glueing foamcore to foamcore? I've got the trusty UHU pens, Aleene's tacky glue (brown bottle) and spray adhesive (which I normally use for gluing cardstock to foamcore), but I'm not sure what is best (if any of these).

Hoyagerv, you'll probably want to wait for DR999's response (to see what he used), but I tend to prefer super glue gel for smaller areas, and either spray mount or the UHU Office Pens for larger areas.

Unfortunately, if such a product exsisted, it would be sold out/impossible to purchase/ridiculously priced. My "job" as an architecture student creates a prejudice towards certain adhesives, each with its strengths and weaknesses...

-Large surface-area glue jobs, especially involoving "sandwich" bonds tend to do well with spray adhesives, although the edges still do better with a thinly applied coat of Aleene's.

-(a side note about Aleene's: Don't bother with the various "quick-set" or "clear bonding" formulas; the original "brown bottle" formula is the only one worth using... the purple "quick dry" formula is fine if you like using a glue that quickly turns into bubblegum consistancy, dries in the bottle, and doesn't bond for shit...

-smaller, "oh crap!!!" bonds are best suited with Zap-A-Gap, or LocTite. KrazyGlue is a diluted version of these products, containing a lower percentage of cyanoacrylate versus medium, and should be avoided at all costs. If your gaming session is getting together in the next twenty minutes, and you need to build FAST, there are accelerators such as Zip Kicker, which sacrifice bond strength for speed of bond, (as in " oh CRAP! I now have a useless flipper!!! [i.e. three fingers instantaneously bonded into a flesh-mitten!], and models stained a wierd yellow color...

-Nothing beats PVA and a bit of patience... or water, for that matter... (WHAT? HOLY WARPAGE!!!) Not really... Aleene's dries far too quickly for area application, but regular PVA (MOOOOO!!!!) thinned with a bit of water and applied SPARINGLY will bond better than you think...

- Which leads to the next point... SPARINGLY!!! Warping is a catch-22 of glues... the best glues for card modeling are water-soluable... They absorb into the material (in this case, cardstock), and dry after forming a bond between two permeable surfaces. Unfortunately, the water-based content of these glues tends to saturate the materials (ESPECIALLLY cardstock), and if too much is used, BLAMMO!!! warp.... The solution? Even, thin application, which is where the glue sticks come in... If a glue stick works for you, then fine, but realize that you are paying for the applicator, and not the product, and guess which one usually fails first...

-Foamcore-to-foamcore usually works well with either Aleene's or "super" adhesives... But look out for foam "sizzle" when using anything other than water-based. (Foamcore doesn't like solvent-based adhesives, especially on-edge... That puff of smoke was the foam interior melting...

I just got my lot of 3 from the same seller 10 minutes ago, although I paid 5.49 or something like that, for 3, free shipping. I ordered them thursday, I think, and they got here today.

Based on my own experience, I'd say go ahead and order from them with confidence.

I went to 3 or 4 Office Depots/Staples/Michaesl, and couldn't find these things...so getting them online in such short order was a pleasant surprise.

I 've heard people mention spray adhesives when doing a board, but I did not see any brands listed. Does anyone have any recommendations (by brand) for a good spray adhesive?

Although I haven't used the spray adhesive for a paper model, I have used the 3M brand, that worked really well for adhearing paper to wood.

I use Duro All-Purpose Spray Adhesive.

It's acid-free, and designed not to harm photos (so it's perfect for cardstock).

Like most spray adhesives, it also allows for temporary mounting, or permanent (depending on pre-stick dry time).

I went to Office Depot to pick up some more UHU Pens the other day but I guess they stopped carrying them. I ended up picking up 3M Scotch Glue and so far it works wonderfully. I haven't used it on any large sandwich folds yet but I don't think it will be a problem. It has a two way applicator, so it has the sponge applicator for the large areas and a pen-like applicator for the small areas.

When dried, does the 3M glue have the crystaline structure of the UHU? Just curious.

I don't believe it does, at least I haven't noticed it.

I hope this glue is better than the Scotch 3M glue sticks. I found a big pack of those at Sam's at a discount awhile back, and grabbed them. They were by far the worst glue sticks I have used. They did not bond very well or very strong, they dried up quickly, and in general were really poor quality. I finally gave them to my six year old daughter for her various projects.

The price has gone up a lot since the original posting here, but I still order my glue pens from this seller on Ebay. I notice he has been getting quite a few negative feedback comments recently, but I personally have never had a problem... he has always delivered the pens in a timely fashion. i bought a pioneer photo glue stick pen from my local CVS. it's ok... takes a minute of holding down the tabs to set them, which is good if you need to make a adjustment but i wouldn't buy it again

I imagine Elmers Wood Glue isn't near the top of the list of recomended glues but currently it's what I've got and more or less what I'm used to using for various projects. The bond has been good so far and I've had no warping >crosses fingers<

With the demise of the local availability of the UHU Glue Pens, I have dicovered that Elemrs has released a non-wrinkle glue pen. The glue it self is VERY tacky but the bonds are good and I have not had too much problem with warpage.

The glue pen is dual-tipped with a bead tip and a larger coverage tip....and it is available at Wal-Mart so market avaialability is good (at least here in the States United).

BTW SR...I too have used Elmer's wood glow. It works well enough but you really gotta get thin coverage on the larger glue-up if you want to avoid warpage, but of course your mileage may vary.

Oh yeah, on the larger surfaces I'm getting it just about as thin as I can with my fingertip in what time I have to spread it. I may try a large putty knife in the future.

I couldn't find the UHU, so I tried some glue sticks, and I think I am happier pressing my double-sided pieces between phone books overnight using my Elmers whiteglue. Good to here about the elmers pen, is there a product number so I can be sure I am buying the right thing the next time I am Wal-Mart?

First, I've had no problems with the UHU Office Pen mentioned earlier. Perhaps I have been getting just the right amount of glue on. Perhaps I'm just lucky. Perhaps it's because I very rarely have a fold-over piece that glues to itself (my builds have all been Mayhem buildings, afixed to foamcore - no interiors). Who knows.

But I highly recommend item #99589. And if you happen to find the UHU Office Pen two-pack #99570 it does indeed contain two of the 99589 pens. These pens contain .68 fl oz.

As for the Elmers pen, the one I have is a white cardboard blister package that hangs from a pegboard. The front says Elmers No Wrinkle Glue Pen. It csays it's washable and contains two tips, a fine point and wide spreader. The bottle itself is clear, but the glue appears to be milky orange in color. Both caps are orange. It contains 1 fl oz.

On the back is has a bar code (26000 00132) and says "Reorder No. E-132".

I haven't yet tried it. I bought it about a month ago to use as a backup should I run out of my trusty 99589. I almost have, but then I decided to see if that link to the ebay seller was still good. It was, so I just ordered a bunch of 3-tube sets from him.

Yup! That's the guy, based on an older link, but it still worked. I ordered four 3 packs just yesterday, received my confirmation email today. Hope to receive the glue sometime early to mid next week. Good thing too. I'm down to my last stick!

I used the purple UHU pen with no real problems, I just had to be sparing on the applications.
