A Wickedly Fun New Game From WizKids

February 3, 2006 (SEATTLE) — WizKids Inc., who revolutionized miniatures gaming with the Mage Knight®, MechWarrior® and HeroClix® collectable miniatures games (CMGs), announced today the next revolution in miniatures gaming: HorrorClix™!



“HorrorClix places players firmly in the action, suspense and excitement of a horror movie,” said Jordan Weisman, WizKids® CEO. “Players assemble teams of monsters from across the horror spectrum — including vampires, zombies and werewolves — and then protect the innocent, eat them or both in a delightful, gore-filled romp!” HorrorClix uses plot twist cards, a heavy emphasis on scenario play and new character cards to explode the boundaries of CMGs and the patented Clix system.

HorrorClix raises the bar for all miniatures games by shifting the game focus from hack-and-slash combat to inventive scenario- and story-based play. Additionally, it uses the combat dial to provide literally hundreds of tailor-made supernatural (and super-gruesome!) powers and abilities. Character cards flesh out each monster with fiction and detailed explanations of each creature’s capabilities, including mechanics never before seen in miniatures games!

HorrorClix will be the star of the show at the two biggest 2006 summer United States gaming conventions: Origins in Columbus, Ohio, and Gen Con in Indianapolis, Ind. Honestly I'm not excpecting anything good to come out of the "civilians and innocent bystanders", i had some hopes, not even high hopes that when they did that in the Hero Clicks lines they would actually have Figures for these instead of the craptastict Tokens that they did go with.

I like the idea of some nice civies in plastic form, but still haven't found a decent group yet for just random bystanders...

Oh on a whim i just went through the Online Demo for this, i had some time to kill at work, and they show the victims in the game... They have a prom queen your monsters can kill... and guess what Wizkids did, card board discs just like for Hero Clicks... well there goes and chance of getting generic miniatures out of this game...

Yeah I was really upset to see them go with the cardboard counters for victims. I don't understand it. Sure it's cheap, but if they made miniatures for them, they would sell a lot more boxes.

I don't buy boxes of heroclix because a lot of the figures are of no use to me... but I buy singles of the ones I want. Horrorclix promises to have all the figures be useful... but not quite as useful as if the victims were also figures.

Oh well, it's still cool...

Yup, I'm the same way with both HC and was with Mage Knight, i just bought the figures i could use for either my D&D or other games.

Yeah I liked that one, they called it a "Dog Soldier"

Well will be hitting E-bay for singles on this. I really wish they had made victims but i saw it comming...

The photos of all the miniatures... a few are worth but as allways it depends a lot of the sculptor...

I think it comes down to quality control issues. I have always looked at the Wizkid stuff as being of lower quality than the WotC stuff.
Wizkids may have done the pre-painted plastic CMG first but i think WotC beat them at it.

Better, and more diverse sculpts in WotC over Wizkids.
Wizkids, be it Mage Knight, Hero clicks or Mech warrior, and now in Horror Clicks has the same sculpt of the same figure. Before you saw the same sculpt over and over and over, just reapinted and on a slightly different click base. You see the same darn figures (mage knight was horrible for this) with a new paint job, and that was it. Wotc even for the same figure stats in different sets makes a new figure and doesn't reuse the same sculpt over and over again. They have more actualy sculpts in D&D than they ever had i would guess than wizkids had in mage knigt.

Better Plastic in WotC than Wizkids.
The plastic in the Wizkid stuff is brittle, i have had so many Magekight figures break, in transport to games. WotC bendy plastic while if it gets warm can make a figure lean or the weapons bend, is a really good thing becuase the weapon BENDS, it doesn't break, which if you are shelling out money for these things i don't like my toys to break, so stuff that doesn't break easy is better.

Better paint jobs in WotC over Wizkids.

Better distrubution in a set in WotC than Wizkids.
You buy a SW or D&D booster you know you will get a Rare (or SW R or VR), X uncommon, and Y common. You know you will get a rare figure. You buy a MG,MW,HC booster you can get all rookiee, common, what ever figures, and the promo items they gave out are not limited edition game breakers. (which are only limited by the stats on the click and a paint job being the exact same sculpt as some other figure in Wizkid games).



A personal issues for me.
Better stat display system, at first i thought it was cool having the stats on the figure becuase, they were on the figure, you couldn't loose the stats with out loosing the figure, but sheesh after having to pick up the figure every time it was hit and everytime you activated it to figure out what it had, what it did, to click the damage down became a pain FAST, and just really broke the flow of the game. Now give me a seperate card any day i'll risk loosing it.

Also better grunt support.
WotC makes grunt minis as minis not as tokens/pogs. There are minis in WotC that suck for the Minis games but have value in other things, you have some minis that are good for the RPG in D&D and loads of grunts in SW. You get the grunts/nobodies in Wizkid as tokens/pogs. Why do i think that if Wizkids had the SW liscence we would see Stormtroopers and rebel troopers as pogs to save on production costs, and 8 different versions of Luke, Han, Maul, Vader in a set, but only 1-2 actually differnt sculpts of the figure, would come out, just a new click base that makes one a Vet over a rookiee. sorry that does nothing for me.
