So I've printed and cut out the rails in the MineCarts and Rails.pdf but they don't seem to fit right in the tunnels. They aren't wide enough to cover the entire bottom of the corners and short tunnels. I've tried to make it work, but they end up just sliding around. Am I supposed to clip these? Is my printer doings some sort of oddball scaling? They are missing the 1" grid too.

Edit: Can't somebody please give some feedback as to how the rails fit into the tunnels?

Can someone please, please tell me if the railway cutouts are supposed to be the same size as the floor of the tunnels you put them in?

I gave up on my Something Below build because it just looked like crap. The rail pieces I have are skinnier than the floors of the tunnels. They just slide around, making it impossible to align one rail with another - let alone survive a gaming sessions. Not to mention they don't have a grid on them. The railways just do not look like something that is part of the rest of the set.

How are these supposed to look? Do I need to "kitbash" these, or is there a patch somewhere that I'm missing?

Hi Nys... Sorry it's taking you so long to get an answer. Guess your first post slipped through the cracks somehow.

I don't have SB myself, but from whatever I've seen, it *should* fit with CaveWorks perfectly. Several people online have made SB builds already, so I'm sure this would have come up if it were a problem with the set.

Do check your printer settings, and make sure you're not doing any automatic rescaling. That seems to be the single most common problem people run into. Grab a ruler and measure both the SB tracks and your CW corridors - AFAIK, they should both be exactly 1". If you've had automatic rescaling turned on all along, it's entirely possible they are *both* off...

I'm sure any moment now somebody will come by who actually has the sets...

Denny's the one who designed them, but as far as I know, the Mine Rails were designed to be a simple drop-in addition to a CaveWorks layout. As for why they weren't designed as full-width... we'll have to get Denny to pipe in. I've put this thread to Denny's attention, so he should have some input coming.

If you're having issues with them staying put, try a small bit of blue-tack (poster tack) on either end to keep it from sliding around.

As for the grid lines, I designed the X & T sections to be consistent with what Denny had already done. If you want to add them, you've got two options. One, you can add them in a drawing program. Two, you can use a light gray felt pen and a ruler. (Be sure to try this on a blank piece of scrap cardstock first, to test the pen for excess bleeding)

The set was designed quite some time ago so I'm struggling to remember some of my design reasoning here. The tracks were one of the last things I made for the set. Primarliy they were designed as simple drop in components that could be placed anywhere in the set (both on tiles and in corridors). I had assumed at the time that anyone that intended on using them would probably glue them down to prevent them from sliding around. You could clip them on the ends if you dont want to glue them down. On the grid issue I'm not sure what to tell you other than it was only the 3rd set we had released back in 2002 and we overlooked that element. We've learned a lesson or two since that time
