As for shrinking The Maiden... She is already a bit broad for her length, shrinking her length would make her look downright stubby! Shrinking the whole thing would throw the vertical dimensions off.

No, I' just have to buy some more foam and masonite. I think I'll skip the epoxy this time around, it looks good, but it took about a week to completely cure. (It goes faster in winter, when you can put it on the radiator.) I am giving the too small board away as a gift.

It seems, i have the same problem with english as you with german, i used (scientific-)english the last time about 15 years ago, now it is a little bit "rusty" and it takes a little time to write even this few rows...  *grin*

That harbourscene you are going to build seems to go in the same direction, as i am planing. As you, i'll mix up all i can, to use it for this project: scullcove, villageworks and some castlewalls and buildings, i found somewhere in the net.
For roleplaying i find a harbourscene always a perfect place to begin an adventure or even for the whole adventure. In the moment, this harbour isn't very much more than ideas in my head, but i am working on it and we will see..  :)

By the way, you are totally right: In such a deep river-harbour, there is no need for the maiden to anchor offshore. When i wrote my answer, i had pictures in my mind like the scullcove, denny posted: a coast with palmtrees, white sands and some wooden and stone docks at the beach... an island, where i would like to spend some weeks in the sun right now...  *sigh*    

But enough for now, i have to make some more working noise...  ;)

Man, this is the most exciting set ever because it's so DIFFERENT. Sure.. EVERYONE has terrain of some kind or another but I have never seen a 3d ship, except for one time where it was scratch built and the guy who made it was so worried about it he wouldn't let anyone move their minis on the ship..

This is going to be GREAT! Excellent follow up to Skull Cove. I just watched Pirates of the Carribean last night (again) to get all inspired. Already trying to think of the best way to turn the Maiden into a 'Black Pearl'.

I am already planninjg on building 2 of them. One for playing, and one for display. I have a huge sheet of clear plexiglass that I intend to use to make a display case. I plan to make it look like a square whiskey bottle. (Probably the largest "Ship-in-a-bottle" ever made. )

I think that both will be modified to carry 16 guns, and in my mind I am calling them frigates, as opposed to galleons. Not enough gun to be a full galleon to my mind. (Then agan a galleon needed a lot of men, and I can just see the poor model collapsing under a heap of led. Plus I don't much like galleons, too unstable, a tendency to sink while being launched, too deep a draft, yet top heavy at the same time...)) Once I have tha acual model in me grabby little fists I will beging research to decide just what she exactly is.

Speaking of rigging... The Maiden is a 3-master, right? Will you be providing a selection of different size and shape sails, for those of us who want to mess around with the rigging?

For example, some of the older carrack-type ships had almost square sails. The ship in our campaign also has a lateen sail (large triangular sail). Later ships had much more rectangular square-rigged sails, plus a variety of fore-and-aft rigged ones.

Hmm... all this talk about authenticy has me worried.

What would be the appropriate rigging for running in waters invested with undead pirates who latch on to your hull and crawl up over the sides? Or what about fending off giant octopi/squid/tentacles?

I'd hate to be the laughingstock of my game group if I showed up with a modified Frigalleon and should have had a 50 gun Galleon with square sailed rigging. I mean, we aim for realism in these things.
