Finally decided to drop some cash at Staples and upgrade my modeling gear. Here's a look at my portable modeling workstation:



The oversized clipboard was actually a yardsale find.

The cutting mat is one of my two Staples purchases. The other is the set of Sharpie "keyring-pens", which I then clipped to the clipboard by way of a...keyring.

I can usually get a knife, ruler, and stack of cardstock to readily fit under the clip of the clipboard and stay put very solidly and well. I'm still working on a way to affix my glue to this, but once I've got that down, I'll be able to port my WorldWorkstation around whever I need to.

The roaming modeler rides again!

I love this concept! The Sharpy keyring thing is an excellent idea btw. I'm constantly dropping pens under the desk, in the couch, wherever I'm modeling. When you're involved in a really big build it's nice to have the option of relocating to either spend some time with or isolate ones self from family

Perhaps a pencil bag will suffice to hold your glues? There are some rather nice fabric ones that are designed to be held in a three ring binder. Should be easy enough to clamp it under the clip.

That is a good idea. I am constantly cleaning off the dining room table in the dark so my daughter Shiva can eat breakfast without a multitude of paper bits and razor blades surrounding her.

Inspired by your idea I went to Staples and bought a blue clipboard with a storage tray in it

It's not as big but since my cutting mat is about 8 1/2 x 11 it fits inside with most all my tools and the paper I'm currently working on.

About the clipboard, there are companies that sell the clip and then you can fasten it to whatever size board you wish. You can cut the board from a standard thickness of hardboard sheet stock. I think rockler woodworking company sells the clips. You can also just google 'clipboard clip' I think.

I like the protable workstation idea. I need to fix up one of those.

I need to find myself another cutting board (my current one seems to be warping upwards in the area I usually do most cutting) so I may just follow your idea and have my new one 'porty-style'!!
