Picked up my set. What stinks is now I gotta figure out something to use in between them! I like the a lot, but want them to be a little thicker than normal cardstock and don't want to laminate a bunch of layers of cardstock together to get the thickness I want.

Gonna have to check out matboard and the comic backing boards.

Good thing the con is this weekend, don't know if I could wait much longer to start making coins!

One of the reasons I like things like this stems from a game a friend of mine was running. I don't remember why I wasn't playing in the game I think it was because of work and my girlfriend (future wife) causing me to have less time to play.

But here's the point, it was a future campaign, every player had a character packet, a sheet protector with their character sheet, equipment sheet and a set of paper play money, which was the amount of money the characters were carrying.

At one point, some the members of the group were the target of a stick up and the GM asked each of the effected players for their packet. He then proceeded to take their money from them. A couple of the players were unhappy about what happened, but I thought it was a really great touch!

Course, all the players had to do was go to the nearest bank and take out more money, but they constantly used that money in the game, reducing it when they bought something, getting more when they were paid for a job, etc. Kind of a neat way to add props to the campaign.

Since I'm running a fantasy game, using play money really doesn't work, but with the new Coins of the Realm release, I've got a great alternative. I'll be using it in my next campaign, you can be sure of it!

Heh, I think this is a very cool idea, first thing that came to mind was making them thicker with matboard . One use I can think of that noone's mentioned yet is a costume prop, if I did back these on matboard I could fill a small belt pouch for my costume this halloween, heh, last time the pouch was empty .

This is a fun little release and completely unexpected. I can't think of a use for the coins personally, but I am planning to pick up the set for the chest. $5 is not a bad price to wrap small Christmas presents with a little style.

Hey folks, first post here. Bought the Minichunk Dungeon last night, and i'm drooling over the parts.

This Coins of the Realm intrigues me, i gotta say. I'm looking for a funnkier cash management system than "write it in the corner of your character sheet and erase it when you spend something".

So far, i've found this, and some other thing at a different store that is more bill shaped than coin shaped.

This is much cooler from a visual perspective, but i do have one question:

How would one most efficiently go about cutting out a million fiddly little coins? Straight out scissors? Or is there a better idea out there?

However, for a bunch of curved sides, a pair of scissors can be used...they're not as precise once you get good practice with the hobby knife, but they are a good bit faster.

Again, sharp helps.

One possible suggestion if you're using the CotR for large transactions (well, aside from using the trade bars...those work too) might be to simply write a # on one side to represent a large number of those coins. Thus, instead of cutting out 1000 Angdurals, you could simply write "1K" on the back of one of them.
