The owner of a game store saw my PCON Pump Station and asked if I thought I could build something similar but using ROBO Rally game tiles as the flooring tiles. I've never played the game. I told him I would have to search the internet for game tiles. I would need to do a little research. Bingo, found a couple of websites with plenty of board tile games. The games I pulled down from the internet came in five sizes and two graphic styles. The largest size had about 30 different scenario boards. How to start?

STEP ONE
I decided to go big, use a tri-folds foam core board. Of course.
STEP TWO
I had two sizes of game boards that were basic solid artwork styles. The first set was a set of ten game boards that made a Race Track challenge. I used these to line the outside edge of the two longest sides of my base board. I actually had to trim two rows off to make them fit. On the short ends of the board I lined the edge with the second set of eight basic solid art game boards. I also had to do a little editing on a couple of the rows to make them fit.
STEP THREE
I made corridors down the middle of the board using section from the two sets. Now my board is dived into four sections.
STEP FOUR
I decided to add to the build two different levels for the next section of game boards to be added. This section has 30 different versions of boards. I used four of the game tile boards for permanent bases and then made a two tile frames of foam core around each of the four game boards. This allows the four building to have interchangeable game boards. You can place any of the remaining 26 game boards into the foam core frames. I then laid these in place on the master board to decide where I could build the walls without creating problem with the flow of the game.
STEP FIVE
How do the players reach the two new levels? I don't know. Walk away.
STEP SIX
I'm back. I use the ladders from PCOM to designate where to find the tiles for reaching the next levels. I created my own tiles for this. Two tiles one for up and one for down with a ramp tile to go with it each. Now how to place them strategically on board? That was really hard to do considering al the hazardous tiles on the board. Walk away.
STEP SEVEN
I'm back, the second level of four game board sections are done but decided to add two taller towers on the end of two of the game board sections. What was I thinking? The tower does help break up the asymmetrical design. I'm not sure how they will work with the game. They're not big enough to really add game board tiles. I decided to make them card holder for the game. One tower is for the draw pile and the other tower for the discard stack. I think I solved that problem. Hope it works.
STEP EIGHT
How do the players on one building cross over to connect to the other building? Bridges. Walk away.
STEP NINE
Add bridges and the yellow and black PCON crosshatch along borders of the edging of the main board and the six buildings. Finished.
STEP TEN
Take bad pictures and put photo samples in my gallery.
STEP ELEVEN
Show game store owner.

I believe I have created one of the largest ROBO Rally boards ever made. It's either five game boards in one (The base is made up of 22 individual boards) or one major game with 26 optional boards that will take at least a month to play.

Warning. The corridors between the buildings are tight. If the room lighting is bad, you might need a flashlight. I'm not kidding. The corridors are 4 squares wide with a over hang from the buildings.

P.S. I also built a small gladiator style arena for a smaller section of game boards (7 in this set) I had this made so the game board is interchangeable also. Sample photos in my gallery.

Fantastic as always Curt. I'm a big RoboRally fan and that looks like a difficult board to get across (but that's half the fun). Of course you've just gone and decided what I've got to build next haven't you.

The builds have found a new home at the game store Gamerz in Indy. The store owner was a very happy camper. He told me he would probable put Robo Rally game squares in the two towers that use temporal moves. I told him that sounded like a great idea. I left him with my extra printouts of the Robo Rally grids that I had left over from the builds.

Mr Blackhammer. I hope you do try building one of these. It was a fun challenge. Everyone at the store was ready to give it a play. You'll make many new friends I'm sure.

This was something I ordinarily wouldn't have built, but I couldn't resist the challenge. 2GunMojo even I might give the game a try, but it would take up my building time. I can't have that. I must stay on my mission to build new worlds for gamers. Sappy, huh?

Robo Rally is quite fun. It has a zany background (bored robots playing games) and gameplay (all your best laid plans go out the window so often, you just can't take it too seriously).

I had fun painting up the metal minis for my friend's game. Even built a custom padded minis box to fit onto the existing game box to keep the minis from getting scratched. I'd post photos but there's nothing WWG about them. They were from a webcam too, so not the greatest resolution.

From what I've seen of the new plastics, I think the old metals are better shapes for the most part. But you could use anything really, even Daleks
