SpaceWorks:First Light
We have completed much of our developmental research over the past few months and we will soon be starting full scale prototype work on this highly anticipated model set. With production times taking anywhere from one to two months you can expect this model set in the very near future.

So what can we tell you about SpaceWorks: First Light?

- SW: First Light is a modular space themed model set

- SW: First Light’s look and feel is part of a uniquely defined, well used universe. This model set has a ton of character and style!

- We have incorporated some elements never before seen in RPG model sets (as far as we know). There are a few “ground breaking” concepts in this set that will alter how you present the map network to your players

- As usual we are including a large variety of props along with the core modelset elements for one low price. These props will help you decorate and set moods for individual areas. We don't believe in gouging our customers with "add-on packs".

Uniquely WorldWorks
From the ground up “SpaceWorks: First Light” is entirely unique on the market. We are taking this model set in directions not yet explored by others in the RPG scenery market. If there’s one thing we pride ourselves on here at WorldWorks its being original and that originality along with our fanatical love for Sci-Fi will shine through in buckets with this release.

While we can’t discuss specifics we invite you to join us in the creative process and give us your wishes for Sci-Fi. We can’t promise anything but if we like what we see we will make every effort to include your suggestions in this release.

Denny, please, Castleworks Ultimate - that's really highly anticipated. Like over a year. I'm starting to lose faith waiting for it as I watch more and more newer products announced, finished and marketed before CWU.

CastleWorks Ultimate is in full production and due out roughly in August. I don't want you to mistake our announcement of "First Light" as a move away from CU. This is just an informative production thread where users can participate in the products development at an early phase. You have to remember that WorldWorks isnt just a staff of one anymore. We have multiple projects on the go at any one time. Currently the following projects are in production:

- Denny: CastleWorks Ultimate (A hopeful late August release)
- Paul: SiegeWorks
- Rodney Brazeau: Our first RPG Adventure Module release
- "The Creators": SpaceWorks: First Light
- Scott Everts: To be announced

This will all jive better with the launch of the new website. The newly updated W.I.P meter will help you get a better handle on our release timelines. Theres a ton a action going on behind the scenes right now. All I can say is that your patience will be rewarded with quality services and product.

Wow, where did the other staff members come from? I thought it was just you and Paul?

Anyway, I'd like:

-Spaceships (I guess interior and exterior is wishful thinking).
-Spacestaions, warships, fighters
-Alien terrain
-Giant space monsters
-time gate/star gate/dimensional portal
-Space pirates! (I see kit-bashing potential...)
-Space "ground" tiles
-Star field, nebula, black hole

I wonder about the "uniquily defined, well used universe" and "map network". So cryptic!

- Alien Terrain (hives, shipe interiors-Farscape)
- "Clean" shipe interiors (Star Trek, B5)
- "Dirty" ship interiors (Aliens, any newer sci-fi)
- Customizable bridge layout
- Spaceport (Mos Eisly)
- City (Coruscant)
- Ground tiles (Space, outside, clean & dirty interiors, alien landscape, moon)
- Storage bay
- Sickbay
- Lab (must have many many lab props)
- Multiple levels
- Will this have 1.5 & 1 inch options?? This set could be a good option for Heroclix!

LOL...maybe. Yes, ok its my ugly mutant head with a few tweaks.

During a recent visit to Barnes and Noble bookstore, I found a sci-fi novel about a realm of corrosive space that ate metal items such as our traditional idea of space craft. The novel put forth a sentient wooden ship that formed a bubble to protect its occupants during its space travels. It also included the realms of fantasy in that the characters were based on orcs, elves, humans and dwarves, with sundry creatures found along they way. So a Tolkien/Heinlein sort of thing. Another use for the Maiden!

I am sure that I am in the minority of WW users, but I only use it for Sci-Fi miniature wargaming (40k). I use Gothic Realms for interior battle scenes, but I would love to have battleground stuff. Trenches (!!!), craters, fortifications, trees, bushes, ruined and complete buildings and that kind of stuff. Did I mention that trenches would be cool?. I realize that most people want the interior stuff (and I will buy it regardless) but any exterior stuff would be awesome (especially the trenches).

For what it is worth, the difference between 1" and 1.5" doesn't really matter to me. Thanks.

Actually, DNA, most of WorldWorks' new releases have three different varieties...1", 1.5", and a "gridless" version. As a wargamer, you're doubtless going to want the gridless variation, since having grids marked on your board elements would detract.



oh...and by the way. SiegeWorks will have Trenches!

Oh yeah, I saw the trenches in the Siegeworks preview. They really got my hopes up for a sandbagged/sci-fi type.

I'm sure this has come up before, and in fact you could argue that it should be in the General Discussion forum as it would be useful for ALL sets, but have you given any thought Denny to including hexes on the floor elements along with 1", 1.5" and gridless? Especially on the SF set you'll get people here who use GURPS and HERO, both of which have large modern/sf followings and both of which use a hex-grid for tactical movement/combat etc.

FWIW, I plan on eventually picking up ALL the SF sets available as I am sure they will all have a different look and feel, and variety is, after all, the spice of life

P.S. I am in love with the Maiden, Denny - the single best example of cardboard terrain I have EVER seen from ANYBODY. Good to see it over at TheMiniaturesPAge.com too

I hope one of the "innovations" with this sci-fi set is a method of hiding the terrain from the players, even though the whole thing is already laid out. We tried that a few times in order to not break the mood while I was frantically searching for another piece of corridor.
Well time will tell, I for one am eagerly waiting for it.

The answer to that is carboard boxes with labels, you know which box to look in when the box is labeled 'Godforsaken Hole Level 1 North East'.

The Auld Grump who helped store a dungeon just that way... then played the paladin on his second time into the pit.

*EDIT* There was also a box labeled 'Secret Stuff the Grump Doesn't Know About'... the things the paladin didn't find on his first trip through.

It's all good Steve. This is really a free-for-all last minute idea jam before we get into prototypes. We have a pretty solid idea of what we are doing at the moment but the hope is that the thread will generate an extra cool idea or two. Your suggestions are most welcome regardless of where you have previously planted them.

On visual style I can't tell you any specifics. We really want this to be a unique release so we are keeping that aspect "shadowy".

A hex grid may be possible with the design. It's something we will consider.
