Hi all

The long awaited gaming weekend has been and gone and I have some in-game shots of the D&D adventure I ran with my castle. I thought I'd share some of the shots with you.

Firstly, here is the castle, having been stripped down in my house, boxed up, transported 14 miles in a car and then re-assembled in my friends dining room. It survived very well.



Once the players had got over their shock/amazement, they began final tweaks to their character sheets, getting ready to start.



Game on. The Irrillian Mob (Father Jack, Father Ted, Leifmold the Ranger, Zorastra the Rogue, Marious Jalarak the wizard and Madoc the Cleric) find themselves teleported into the courtyard of Castle Grimknell. The reception is a little unfriendly.



Halfway through the combat, the big baddie reveals himself, much to Marious the Wizard's disgust as his walls of force instantly start getting disintegrated.



The epic courtyard battle nears it's conclusion (several hours later !). The team's adrenaline starts to subside enough for them to start moaning at me about how tough the first encounter was



Next, the Irrillian Mob try and sneak in the top floor and surprise a bunch of warforged baddies



Combat with the warforged ensues and our heroes ultimately triumph, after more adventures with a wall of force, this time from the baddies.



Here's a shot of the party exploring the relatively quiet (but well furnished) first floor.



Reaching the stairs down, Father Jack wonders what awaits him below.



Father Jack finds out and his player has a sleepless night worrying about tomorrow's combat. Roll for initiative !

Leifmold the Ranger bites the dust



Having defeated the War Duke, his harem and followers (Father Ted showing a peculiar interpretation of Lawful Good in the meantime by commencing the butcher of an unnarmed, blinded enemy!), the intrepid Irrillian Mob resurrect Leifmold and continue the adventure. Next stop the sewers.



Where they encounter all sorts of foul beasties



From which they (rather ignominiously) decide to run away, embarrasingly leaving the Sheild Guardian they liberated from the War Duke to be eaten later on Althoiugh the great retreat was started by Leifmold, pretty soon it's Father Jack leading the rout across the acidic sewer.



Where the party find the entrance to the dragon's lair.



Inside the lair, the party prepare to do battle with the minions of the imprisoned Red Wyrm Sythothyx. By this time, Marious is down to his Dispel Magic wand as his main weapon, but he's still up for it. Madoc the Cleric impresses everyone by finding another six spells on his list to cast upon himself. Mariou's player discovers a cool use of the Arcane Sight spell - annoying the hell out of the DM



When the party reach the final encounter, there is a sudden flurry of picture taking as the players think they need to fight two iconic dragons.



The boys and girl heave a sigh of relief when they eventually realise they must battle the black dragon Eribonyxstallif for the freedom of Sythdothyx, rather than both of them. Zorastra the Rogue reveals previously hidden heroic tendancies by climbing onto the black dragon's back to attempt to remove it's magic amulet in the midst of the battle.



And they all lived happily ever after !

I hope you all enjoyed the pix, The terrain was fantastically received by the gamers and a fine weekend was had by all.

How long did you spend on building the castle do you think?

Your sewer shots have inspired me even more. Time to do some "roll your own kit-bashing" and impress the locals here with my l33t texturing skillz.

Your photos do a great job of showing the size of the finished castle, trouble is that your photos may have stopped me from getting CWU since I have NOWHERE near enough storage space for something that big................. maybe for a Convention game????

I'm curious, but how did the "Irrillian Mob try and sneak in the top floor"? I've been looking at all the photos trying to imagine what they did but can't figure it out. Did they climb the walls of the keep? Levitate? Climb the outer walls and jump?

Heh, isn't that the truth. My own limited experience as a DM was such a mess. I was trying to run a purchased module for Judge Dredd RPG and I was the only one with any real Judge Dredd experience. It resulted in lots of arguments, lots of attempts to go way out of the scope of the adventure, and me not able to bring things back together.

In my days of playing, I think I played many characters up to around level 10 but never really played beyond that for some reason.

As a player in your game, I'd kinda feel bad about trying to bypass most of the castle since you put all the time in to build it. I'd probably explore every nook and cranny before moving on.

Welcome to the forums Pete. The real question is... after wiping out all the critters from the castle, did you claim is as your new homebase? You might have to hire some underlings to clean out the sewers, but it's a pretty cool castle to hang your hat.
