I cut out the templates, mount them to foamcore, mount the walls in their proper positions, then mount the floors to the wall tabs. So far, my models line up pretty well, not completely correct, but close enough!

Yes, it's an extra step, but I need that extra step to get my models to line up right!

I'm one of those with the non-symmetrical prints, ie: top to bottom is 1/16" or so short. Which doesnt seem like much until you put something like building that is the proper size on top. It also adds up when laying out tiles, making a minor alignment mess of the layout.

*SO* I tend to precut my foamcore in 7"x 7" squares, It takes a little extra patience to make sure they are actually a true square and not a parallagram or some oddball shape, but when I am done I have 8 perfect 7" x 7" squares from a standard 20x30 sheet. At that point I can cut the tile to shape and edging will take care of any foamcore showing.

What I do is use the snapshot function to copy the piece I want, and then I past it directly into Word. This automatically resizes to something I clearly don't want (but the proportions stay the same, which is good,) so I need to use the image adjustment function and resize the picture that way. On my printer, to get a 7" square for tiles, I think I have it set to 7.11" wide by 7.08" high. I would imagine any other cheap printer would need to be fiddled as well. Mostly how I figure things out is trial-and-error, and by knowing how to make the image on my screen the same actual size as a sheet of cardstock (usually about 77% actual size in Word.) To get my dimensions roiughly where I want them before a test print, I size the document to be real-sized (checked by holding a blank sheet of paper up to the monitor to make sure) and then using a ruler to measure the image. Then I make a test print, measure it, lather, rinse, repeat as necessary.

I am quite possibility the most unskilled computer user in the entire universe, but I also have this weird habit of trying to make things work... there are probably many easier ways to do what I do, but this is the slow boat method that I use because it works for me.

As far as non-accurate printers, it seems to be a very common problem, personally I use an HP 6210 (all in one, printer-fax-scanner). It prints very well and I have alot of built in print controls. I could take it to photoshop to stretch that extra 1/16" but it really isnt a huge deal, once you realize what is going and account for it.

To test out the printing issues, I used an *old* HP 4 b/w laser and an HP 1120c, all had some print issues.

The common threads in this are:
1. Me
2. HP
3. WWG pdfs
4. Acrobat

Now, such a small samplying isn't accurate. Since I do kitbash and have pulled the pdfs into photoshop, I can easily see that the pdfs are accurate and printing from photoshop gives me the same results. I am also confident of my abilities *and* I have heard of others with different printer makes have similiar issues.

SO: My conclusion is that the printers meet a certain print standard and that standard happens to allow for some proportion errors. *shrug*

Obviously the proportion issues would be consistant throughout all models, like the vehicles and so on (some vehicles are placed two on a sheet 90 degrees to each other, so the proportion issue would make each vehicle incorrect in opposite ways *wink* ) However, I have not seen there to be any real problems with most parts save for the floor tiles. Accuracy in cutting, scoring, folding and glueing can make up or magnify those fractional issues anyway. And edging is your friend
