An interesting trick I happened upon (and then didn't have time to implement) for the last contest that helps make more realistic interiors, if one is building Villageworks buildings is this:

First, print out and create your building normally.  Then, after you've built each storey of your building, go back to print the same buliding over again (all but the roof).

This time, however...go over your printer settings carefully.  See if you can find one for printing a "mirror image" of the page.  If you can, you're officially in business!  

Print out the mirror-image versions of the pages, cut away all of the tabs and exterior hookups (you may need to trim away a tiny bit of the ends of each piece as well until it fits properly).  Fold them the wrong way, and glue them into place.  

Your interior and exterior walls are now identical.  Windows and doors should match up exactly.

I'll try to post a sample when next I can borrow a digi-camera, though if someone else were to give this a go, I'd welcome being "beaten to the punch" getting pictures up.

Didn't mention this earlier, but as an added bonus, the thicker walls make for a very sturdy little building.  

Another trick I've used to good effect for my upper-storey rooms and roof pieces is to leave a flap of white underneith the bottom of the walls.  Tucking all four of these flaps inside the lower floor makes the building line up easier and, again, a bit more stable and durable.

Yeah, that is a good tip, Andorax. I did an inn with P&I wall on the inside, with VW exteriors glued on the outside. It was impossible to get the doors and windows to line up right, though, even though I went through it very carefully (and discarded almost as many pieces as I ended up using). It still looks good,IMHO, at least until you look closely enough to see a door off by 1" or a window by 2". What made it especially hard was trying to get the posts and beams to line up, and then have a space for a window or door. The double sided walls are a lot sturdier, though!

A combination of the Snapshot feature in Acrobat and almost any paint program can also allow this, create a snapshot of the walls, paste the resulting image to your paint program and flip it.

There is some loss of detail, but it functions for those who do not have the ability to otherwise print mirror images.

why not just put the piece of cardstock back through the printer flipped over with the mirror image?  it may not be as strong but it would have the same result and easier to work with

Three reasons, Qball.

1)  Cardstock is cheaper than ink.  The additional cost of printing out an extra sheet of cardstock is very small compared to the additional price of ink, there's very little lost.

2)  Alignment isn't always easy.  If it doesn't match up "just right" (including putting the sheet in wrong-side-first), it won't work properly.

3)  Uber-durabilty.  Denny has gone on at length about how tough regular 110 lb. cardstock is.  Two thicknesses, back to back though?  It makes for a very tough little building.

I'm still waiting on a good chance to snap some digi-cam shots of my version of this method...but it worked out quite well when I tried it.

all good points. I'm all for buildings that last, especially with my super secret ultra hush hush project I'm working on... I believe all the WorldWorksGames fans if not Many gamers and Fantasy buffs will enjoy what I have in store. Mwa ha ha ha...

For the record I went ahead and tried this on my VW build. So far I've only done the kitbash medium stone building but it did turn out nicely. It really helped strengthen the build.

I'm wondering how to get a floor (like from P&I) built into it now. I guess I can leave tabs on the floor and glue it in before I glue in the mirrored walls. Unfortunately I don't have any of the SoM stuff so I'm not sure how the floors are done with those either.

This thread got me wanting interiors to my VW buildings too, so I had a go today, using pretty much what everyone has suggested here, apart from the floor and opening doors.
I added tabs to the edges of my floor and then glued it to the walls before gluing the interior walls, and also, cut out the door on the outside and interior walls and added a tab to those glued it all together and sandwiched it between the interior and exterior wall, and hey presto one working door.
Also added some paper prints to cover over the white tabs that the roof sits on, so it looks cool once the roof is removed.

Well worth the extra time it took, and now I plan to add it to more of my buildings, sadly the ones I already have are permanently glued together, so I will have to print and rebuild a load, but hey, some of those could have locked doors, right?

Wow, that looks fantastic. Are those all VW textures? It almost looks like textures from The Maiden. Very well done, and I'll be stealing your ideas when I get around to building a village

To be honest the door was the hardest part to figure out, I did intend to just build it all then cut the door on 3 sides and hinge it that way, but the cut was just too messy, and I had no control, oer the knife, so it's easier to cut it out flat first.

Managed to find a flat roof I had previously printed out but didn't use.

Outstanding stuff. They look great. All this interest in VW interiors mirrors my own and I had planned to go this way for my next build, replacing a lot of my "exterior only" buildings with something like bruenor's (the additional buildings will actually not need to be replaced, because in general the PCs only go inside one building at a time).

What do the buildings look like when ground floor, upper floor and roof are all placed on top of each other ?

I am planning to adapt VW buildings to the CWU way of stacking buildings, but it'll be several weeks before I start. Thanks for the tips guys.

Haven't had chance to build a second story building yet as I have run out if ink, but I too plan to do the seocnd story floors like the CWU towers but with the stairwell.
Need to buy the 1" stairs too.
I think going the way of the Towers and buildings of CWU will give a better
sitting second floor, and roof.
Will give it a go once I have some more ink.

Nah, that building is a small wood shack, so it's only a one level building, for my two level ones I'll cut those corner pieces away, as the ground floor, floor will give the buildng it's shape, and the first floor, will help anyway, as it'll slot into the top of the ground floor walls, ala CWU.
Plus the double thickness of the walls make for a sturdier building anyway, as you will already know from your CWU buildings.

Those look great. I ended up using brown & black markers to draw boards on the support tabs for the roof/second floor. Apart from using different textures mine came out essentially the same. It does provide a substantial support to have the extra layer of thickness on the inside and the floor and gives it a much better weight.

My players didn't get as far as I'd imagined this week, so I have another week to build more houses

Frank if you're still watching this thread, I've just built one of the CWU buildings, and I have to say that with respect (to Denny, you da man!!), to the VW second story buildings I'm really gonna have to go with the same way the CWU ones are bulit, with the ceiling, 1st floor, being foamboard, giving much needed stabilty.
Plus I think I've figured out how to use the corner supprts too, but need to build one just to be sure.

Will keep you all posted.
