Well I thought that it could look pretty cool - the ref describes the room and the players say that they're looking for secret doors and viola! - the ref turns out the lights and reveals...a hidden passage.

I thought that they could be used as magical markings on the entrance to a tomb - I know it's grabbing straight off of LotR but I'm sure that it'll look good and enhance gameplay. I guess that it would work well on any player handhouts (eg maps) but couldn't be used too much before it becomes old hat.

Ebay has had some very cheap blacklights and UV torches for sale too, though I wouldn't be surprised if Maplin.co.uk sell something useful too.

Thats a cool idea.  I don't know if I'd bother in my own game but for a con game or one-shot it would be neat.  Its a lot of money and effort for something that will get old after 1 or 2 uses, though.

Hey there may be no need to get expensive blacklights or other UV sources. Many clubbing accessories now have UV or close to UV blue LEDs that should be able to "light up" UV markers. With a little wiring you could even mount the LED on an opposite wall, press the on switch and reveal the Door/marking/whatever.
