What's a burnisher and what is burnishing? I've heard the term used a few times and was curious

Burnishing is rubbing, basically. Some glue (like glue sticks) work much better if you burnish the joins a bit, rather than just set and hold the glue. It works even better when you can burnish against a hard surface (like a tabletop or workspace).

I use a wooden paint stirrer from Home Depot for burnishing. High tech.

I went looking for a burnisher at my local craft store and they were a bit surprised, as here a burnisher is more like a pencil-like tool to draw lines in something. I ended up picking up a roller used for stamping (hard-rubber roller thing that looks like what Denny is using in the videos on the site). It works well.

I use a wallpaper edge roller, the thing used to roll over the edges of your wallpaer to make them nice and flat, looks like what Denny uses, but hard plastic roller.
Only a quid or so from Wickes.

The tool that Denny uses is refered to as a Brayer generally.

But I have several roller inserts, one of which is a clear lexon one for burnishing.

Brayer, that's the term I asked for and got the strange looks from. I have one that looks like the speedball in the second picture above.

Wallpaper seam roller, that's the offical title to mine.

The official title of my burnisher is a Hand, but no two models are alike so your might not find a Hand that works as well for you.

Actually, I might look into those wallpaper rollers to try it out.

It appears that the wallpaper roller may have a crown in the roller. If it does jsut be aware that pressing hard *may* deform the mounting.
