Micro Release Sets

Ok first off, I’m lazy… I have not searched the entire forum for threads with this topic and I sure it’s been brought up before, but here goes….

I would like to see Micro Releases of Sets. Set that contain 1 -3 models or a single tile, or misc do-dads like objective markers. Like one page models.

Examples would be a micro western set. One or two builds would be great, or a few muddy street tiles. Or a single 15mm building for ‘Flames of War’ or a Normandy style bunker, or a few beach tiles for FOW. Steam Punk stuff… basically models sets that are easer to complete in a shorter time and WWG could cover a wider range of topics and see which ‘Hit’ or which ‘Miss’.


I’d pay $3 - $5 for theses micro sets and WWG could scratch a few itches we gamers have….

Micro releases are an idea that Denny and crew support, and something they were planning to do with the release of the new site. The problem is that any great idea they have slides down the slippery slope into a monstrous project before they even get started...

Well... just stop that... lol. after seeing TOPO knock out his latest model in like two or three weeks... makes me think that a few micro sets could be done in short order, and keep the WWG level of quality.

I like that microsets might come out fairly quickly. But I think the Worldworks stuff is to cheap for microsets to cost $3-5. TOPO made a great model but its not equal to 1/5-1/3 of Red Section. Not even if Red Section was strickly a model set. I wouldn't pay $3-5 for say a new tile, not when most sets come with several tiles and models.

Besides there are a lot of kitbashes I still need to buy, when ever I feel like a little something new.

The microsets are a great idea and can't be compared to kitbashes because they would be newly designed from scratch (or I would think so). They would be able to address many needs of modelers in a timely fashion without sacrificing quality. Sure some won't pay $3-$5, but some would. Besides WWG model sets are underpriced. I don't know how they can afford to keep their prices as low as they do. I appreciate their efforts to do so however. But if one or two models were offered of somrthing I really needed I'd pay the price for them. It is afterall my choice, and one I'd like to have if my wished for stuff wasn't part of a large model set. or one which wouldn't happen any time soon enough. There are too many ways to define value which make comparisions shakey at times.

Example, how many of you guys would like a shot at buying just one model from the Streets of Himmerveil? It certainly would take the edge off. Micromodels would be very useful, IMHO.

yeah denny....no offense to the other companies, but their work kinda sucks compared to wwg. seriously. i was browsing the internet for some heroclix scenario ideas, and came across lots of pics of other peoples' terrain and such. some if it was homemade, and some was obviously purchased, but i looked at it close and thought "wow, if thats wwg that must've been their first release, cuz it kinda looks like trash". your products are top notch.

i just built my first flat from the BoM set. my wife came in and said "wow! thats really good"...which is HUGE because all she ever says is "um, neat". keep up the awesome work!

I've purchased many models from other companies and they all are different of course for various reasons. But one thing they all seem to lack and WWG provides in spades is TOTAL commitment to quality and the RPG community. Your plans for the future underscore that.

Example, there is another company whose model sets show remarkable paper engineering ... absolutely remarkable. Unfortunately, it feels like this designer was handcuffed by rhe company's limited standards at the time. Engineering is a part of something, albeit the bedrock of any product. There are so many other elements invovled to bring its promise to fruition however ,,, to TOTALLY develope it.

WWG has the vision and standards of excellence for total developement! They also have the necessary long view planning for staying in business, which is reassuring. Amid all of this they are response to thier clients. Outstanding!!!

I have always been a builder of models. I never played a RPG game, yet I am going to now. With some of WWGs model sets including a game. PCOM: Red Sector was the deciding factor. I'm taking my models out of their displays and onro game tables! I am a die hard WWG fan. My birthday is next month and at the top of the list is PCOM: Red Sector.

One of the challenges has to be the overall size of the market - and that isn't something that a lot of investment will fix.

Getting to the market that is there may well benefit from more marketing- i.e. more very well targetted dollars.

WWG is the best cardstock model publisher I've seen out there, by a long shot - just have a look at what comes up in the top 10 when you do a google search for 'cardstock terrain', 'cardstock models', or 'cardstock buildings' and you'll see what I mean.
But WorldWorksGames still doesn't show up in the google top 10 (i.e. the first and only page worth mentioning) for these and it doesn't even appear in the first 100 for cardstock buildings, card terrain, card models, card buildings, paper terrain, paper models, paper buildings.

That would suggest a lot of your potential customers aren't finding you yet Denny.

As a starting point I'd suggest getting WorldWorksGames.com into the google top 10 for "cardstock models" and see if that makes a difference.

denny, you talk about making sure that you keep growing, especially your customer base....

just my personal opinion but i didnt even know wwg existed until i just happened upon it by looking up pics of 3D terrain for my heroclix games in google. i betcha a lot of the wargaming community on the net has never heard of you either. just a thought, but you might want to invest some of your time into marketing on some of the fan sites. for instance... www.hcrealms.com is a forum i frequent for heroclix stuff.
