After the response elsewhere when I enquired after a set I had hoped to buy, I will bite my tongue and not mention that designer or that cancelled set. Instead, I'm wondering what will happen to the sci-fi/future design and who will next take up the reigns.

Matt and Scott are both geniuses at Modern and Horror. Matt is doing a bit of sci-fi with the PCON and PCRS sets.
Denny, when he gets time, is working on fantasy, I believe.
Peter is working on fantasy when he gets time.
Steve is sucked into a Wormhole, probably for a long time to come with expansion and such.

Perhaps we'll see a WWG+Ebbles collaboration for our sci-fi fix?

Perhaps Stone Edges will release another sci-fi set?

I'm just curious if the genre has any hope for the near future?

I'd call PCON and PCRS more than a "bit" of sci-fi...he's the only designer besides Paul who has Sci-fi releases under his belt, so far. And I'd thoroughly expect to see more in this direction.

I don't know what Scott has in mind in the short term, but I do know he's being kept inordinately busy.

Last time I checked (oh, about 6 hours ago), Denny is busting his posterior to get Wormhole out...which I do believe qualifies as sci-fi, albeit not a 28mm scale game.

Peter's been working on his first Fantasy release, yes.

Steve will not be with us any longer. He left by mutual disagreement last March. Not that this made a huge difference on the model end of things, since he, like I, was a writer and game designer. I've taken over as the author of Wormhole.

I know there is plenty of Sci-Fi still out there to do, and while a fair bit of our sci-focus is currently on the smaller scale of Wormhole, there is hope yet. Just keep in touch.

Sigh, let me clarify so people don't get as nitpicky on my choice of words.

From my perspective, Wormhole is a seperate element entirely. Sure, it looks great, and I might pick it up, but what I'm referring to is WWG's bread and butter... the 28mm terrain.

PCON and PCRS is sci-fi, but it also works for non-sci-fi settings. They are superb sets, but not the same sort of thing as Mars Station, which is ideally the kind of set I'd like to see again... and after all... this is a wishlist area. If Matt does do more Sci-fi, that would be excellent.

Sorry to hear Steve is no longer part of WWG, but congratulation Bob on taking over as author. As a suggestion, it might be prudent to update the "" page and remove Steve if he is no longer representing the company... *shrug*

Oh, and CCotD, I'm not saying "there isn't anymore sci-fi"... I'm saying "is there anymore sci-fi"? Big difference as far as I'm concerned. I'm not a doomsayer, I'm a customer wondering what's going to happen not that one set I was looking forward to has been cancelled, and the designer potentiall quit. I think it's a reasonable thing to ask.

Thanks for the update Denny. It's this kind of post that I'd love to see on the Blog more often... though the link to the blog has become hard to track down these days.

I am trying not to get too excited about Maximum Roadrage, since it's quite far away yet, but I'm struggling since it sounds so cool.

Mel Ebbles has some fantastic little sets coming, shown on his workbench. I'm most excited about the small shuttle which I hope will be out soon.

I hope the business end of things does settle down at some point... and you get a chance to do what you really love, design model sets.

Also, if anyone ever feels the urge... a few of us around here would love to see a clean near future city...
