That is too cool! Nice work Steve. You should submit a template/instructions on making this as a kitbash. It really looks nice.

Did you use tutorials to learn GIMP or pick it up on your own?

I have tried to use GIMP to make a kitbash but its given me no end of problems. In the beginning I couldn't get the resolutions settings right so things kept printing the wrong size. I constantly fumble with the tools. But the kicker is that when I finally get something done I go to save it and the save fails "unknown file type". I've tried multiple file types including .jpeg and nothing succeeds.

I have been able to make modifications using Paint but Paint has a fixed resolution of 102 dpi and the kitbash submission guidelines say that there is a min 200 dpi resolution.

Some looking online explains the save issue. For files I'm going to keep working with in GIMP I should be using .xcf, for files I want to open with another program I should use .jpeg or .tif. But to save in them it exports, removing GIMP information like layer settings.

But still using GIMP is extremely cumbersum. Just making straight lines is so counter-intuitive. Using it is taking me 20 times as long.




Anyway, back to topic. I don't own the mayhem sets. Does it have have any modern highrise office building textures? I mean those buildings that appear to be just a series of mirrored glass panels.

That kind of texture would be ideal for tinkering arround with for near future buildings. Especially if it provided varitions of the glass color, like blue, black, copper, etc.

If people can do simple structures, I imagine someone could kitbash Robotech's Valhalla/SoldierTown from Eulogy (Colonel Wolfe's base of operations) using the Mars Station set.

I've been working on more near future city stuff lately. I have a 1/4 dome glass building prototype built, using the window textures from the Downtown office building.

The idea is that you can build a 1/4 dome with two flat sides, or make a 1/2 dome with a long flat side, or a full dome (14" across!). There will also be an optional tunnel style entrance that connects to the sloping dome sides, as well as doors for the vertical flat sides.

My camera batteries are currently flat, I am charging them now, and will upload pics tonight, hopefully).

One piece of terrain I've wanted to do for GOMC1 for a long time is a burger bar, in the shape of a burger. The idea was a 14" circular building, tan brick on the ground floor, seating area upstairs with brown windows, maybe a little yellow, green and red trim for condiments, and a tan domed roof with speckles (sesame seeds). If you manage this dome, it'll be one step close for me to complete my project. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
