I had a thought, and boy, did my head hurt! I wondered about putting cut-down strait pins in as door hinges instead of relying on the paper doors being folded back and forth. This should make them last just about forever. By putting the pin in the door but not gluing it, just indenting the door piece as the glue dries, and then gluing the pins in the door frame as it is assembled should do the trick. I can see it would make things a bit more complicated as the whole thing is assembled, but should give good results overall with little real hassle. These wonderful models deserve to be around for a long time, and this would enhance their durability. Perhaps a small map-pin for a doornob to open the door? I will add this to my must-try list as I continue to work on the villageworks stuff.

I think I see where you're going with this.

Make the door so it folds where the hinge side would be.

Cut away the fold edge such that it leaves 2 distinct hinge points (where the fold remains)

Do the inverse on the hinge side of the wall.

Now you should have 2 notches that fit the door's hinges. Run a pin through the hinges before you glue the folds down.

That pretty much refines what I wat thinking of. Hinges will be somewhat hidden and very functional. For those who might also do RC aircraft, there are always the small brass hinges for flying model airplanes. They wouldn't be as easy to hide, but might blend in with some of the buildings anyway.
