I was looking through my Urban Mayhem stuff and I noticed that there were *only* three billboards to choose from. (They were ALL cool/funny, btw!)

And, I was thinking it wouldn't be all that much trouble to sit down and 'Photoshop-up' one of my own!! (Which, by the time of this writing, I already have. Everyone FEEL FREE to use it, to your hearts content.)

THEN, the thought occured to me...
They are such small pieces of artwork, and I wouldn't really mind if anyone else used MY piece. So, why don't I take it to the forums, and let everyone else see it?

THEN, another thought occured to me...
Wouldn't it be nice if EVERYONE did that?!
And, that was when the idea for a 'Persoanlized Billboard' contest popped into my head.

Pretty much, (by *joining* the forums), we are aggreeing to relinquish the materials we POST on here...
And, a tiny 1" by 4" piece of artwork wouldn't kill anyone. (I don't think.)

I'm NOT trying to make any MORE work for the guys here, but it just seemed like a COOL idea.

An even easier way is just to copy the img address, paste it into your message, then highlight it. Click on the IMG button and the [ i m g ] and [ / i m g ] bits go either side and you get the piccy inserted.

I thought I was the only one here who might actually enjoy the City of Heroes CCG. Love that game! Too bad it looks like AEG is dropping support for it.

Heh, I used the SoM billboards and some magazine advertisements, then tore them in strips to make a peeling billboard. (Based in part on an old song - I have it somewhere in these forums.... )

What would be funnier, (for a 1/100th scale city), than billboards...
advertising those classic B-movie GIANT monster movies?!

Answer: NOTHING! *heh heh heh*

So, I slopped two together and put it with the hummer ad.
(Its composited into the standard Mayhem:DT billboard sign sheet, but I'm not EXACTLY sure the SIZING is perfectly correct. I had to 'play' with it a bit. So, just be aware if you are going to use them... you MIGHT need to do a little resizing.)

You guys said that you used old magazine images for your billboards.
So, I figured 'recompositing' some old comicbook images would work just as well...



Whatya think? (As usual, feel free to use 'em! etc.)

Think I'll do one more, after this one.

(I think I'll pass on the 'godhood'. Might just be easier to shoot for 150 posts!)

So, do you get to design it (pick and choose), or do they make it for you when you get it?

As far as copyright concerns go...
NOONE should be 'selling' these images. So, I think we are safe.
This whole competition... (if you could even calll it that)... is just a 'friendly' way for us more 'artistically inclined' WWG-modellers, to give EVERYBODY else a free database of 'alternate' billboards. To use with their Mayhem dioramas, etc..

Billboards are small, simple, and usually quick/easy to create. I figure its a fairly simple and friendly way for us to showcase our... uh... 'talent'. While, simultaneously, building 'communitee comaraderie'.

(Me am smart.)

Lastly, I'll be 'thinking over' some ideas to try and make this more like an actual competition. When I feel that I have enough entrees, I'll take it to the WWG staff, and we'll see what the have to say. (Maybe I can buy the winner $10.00 in store credit, or sumthin' I dunno. I'd also like to see all the entrys gathered together, (or print/use), at some point. But, THAT is up to the WWG guys, not me.

But, for now,... there just doesn't seem to be enough interest. (Only 'ONE' useable/printable entry, just ISN'T enough.) Maybe things will pick up, later on

As for Photoshop...
I HEAR you there.
I use it myself, and it gives me LOTSA headaches. It seems to HATE my other (BEST) art program: CG-ILLUST. (Which is what I use to do most of my actual painting.) Being a newcomer to personnel computing, I really have no idea how MOST of this stuff is supposed to work. I have to GUESS at everything. (hey tell me I'll get the hang of it sooner or later. But, I DUNNO.)
Still, Photoshop was running FINE... right up until I ninstalled CG-Illust. Now, the blasted thing won't do 'image selections'. (I keep getting the error message: More than 50% pixels were not seleceted Unable to complete task" ...whatever that means. *groan*)
As for fonts...
Yeah. Thats a touch and go process. You just got to develope a 'FEEL' for what you think works right/looks best.
Originally, I only had 20 fonts on this machine. But, after I figured out how to install them, I set about downloading any of them I could get my hands on. (They're very usefull in CG-Illust. Which has a rendered text option.) So, now I have over 130 of them, and am still looking.
(NOW... I desperately need to 'organize' them. *groan*)
