As for a grid...no easy way I've found, someone else might have come across something but below is the 2 I've tried.

I've got a component I made up which is a grid 1" and 1.5" square both are 7x7 and I just copy and past the grid onto the surface...gets tedious over large areas but quick as a guide you can remove later it's great.

I've also tried laying a grid on as a texture but I found this wasn't very accurate for aligning other pieces so prefer the above.

Yeah, those stairs. Although I was trying to figure out how to make curves on multiple axis before I got shellendrak.

I cannot even figure out how to make an awning. Those ones that are like 1/4 of a sphere.

I don't have shellendrak so I'm running of the promo picture so I might have missed a curve...anyways does the below look close? was only quick and rough so excuse the edges

Anyways been working on CWU into sketchup, not quiet finished but played
around tonight as I was sick of skinning geometery, wont win any design awards. A few picys below:

Guess it would be buildable but it'd be hugh and the keep would need a lot of internal customization:)

Now that is a ton of work to do.

Sir Rob 01 you have done the CWU set a great justice with you build. As you might know from setting it up there is as much work in that as a cardstock version, the only bonus is that you now can add or subtract with ease.

If your handy with Pshop you might look at dropping a nice background on it - start with losing the shadow and then adding the background.


I would like to put a challenge out for people to try and skin this from the picture - you will find that you cannnot. Also Denny should allow for one wall texture of .... any set to be put up as a SkUp component to be D\Led in ordered to be skinned and copied in ordered to create cardstock version -. that is retro fit the texture. I personal believe that it cannot be done, or at least it cannot be done with out losing a lot of depth to the textures. Also if someone wants to try this I think you will find that more time is spent on trying then actually doing anything.

End of the day I personally believe tha SketchUp is a safe program to hold the textures in... plus it creates some sexy layouts.


I look forward to the day that WWG releases it's sets dually as pdf and SketchUp files.

And no the castle probably wont be built, the keep I will at some stage but I like Pelthars more exotic design and I'm going to try and make something a bit different also. At the moment I also have very little storage space so virtual models work well.


HighlandPiper Im actually hanging out for your chunkycave's bash when it's released , looks good in SKU

Lord Abbadon, theres actually an option in SKU to save whatever textures that are used in the SKU files to your hard drive and I can't find anyway to protect them , short of dropping the quality, but you can repeat textures more so theres less files. Hopefully the submission guidelines in Sept will give us somewhere to throw our work to share:)

Virtual models are great, they save so much time and money. But I still have that slow down problem when I make a large textured layout. I had hoped that making the individual structures componets would help, but the problem persists.

Question: How big are these sketchup files typically (textures included)? Can you guys give me some numbers on the sets which have been converted?

This is a quick layout I did with some stuff I textured and saved as componets.

the sketchup file is 107 mb.
The building componets are 18,000kb per floor.
The ground tiles are 1,500kb each.

Keep in mind that all the buildings are also textured on inside walls and floors. But I should note that the building textures are all 300 dpi and the texture itself is of the entire building, not of just each side. I still have to make the medium stone building. This time I'm going to do the texture at 102 dpi and have each texture cropped to be only the particular portion of the building I'm painting it on. I'll let you know if that reduces the size.
