Castle Duello

In a previous thread about SketchUp I showed a layout of a castle that I came up with. Here is one of the images.

Well, the laborers have been hired and the foundation has been poured for the front section:

I wast up until 2 am cutting the Linx notches and printing out the pages needed for construction. Not being able to stop I built 1 wall section before I had to force myself to go to sleep.

This morning, construction called to me and I built 1 tower section including the topper. Needless to say I got into office a little late this morning. :oops:

I intend to take pictures of the progress I make on this just because I can.

Oh, and sorry for the picture quality. My wife took the 'good' camera with her on a trip and all I had left was my camera phone.

ps. I also intend to do a write-up about about the history of Castle Duello, but I want to get some construction time in first.

I really like this!! The pictures make it look so massive ... the stone so hard you can imagine hearing the hurried footfalls of a messenger or theif in the night. My goodness, it packs ambiance from the get go, doesn't it. I like the eye level type of picture ... it puts you right inside the walls. I'm sticking with you all through this build, for sure.

I've got to tell my brother about this. He has trouble setting a scene at times. I think he can benifit greatly if he got into building his scences in cardstock. He could put himself inside the walls, so to speak. He can describe things in his memory but sometimes memory fails us. Yes, this is what he needs. I'm so excited to tell him about it. I hadn't thought of it before seeing that one picture of yours. Now he'll have a tool to help him.

Just you wait Delta...just you wait...

The stones have been speaking to me as I assemble them and they have been telling me the history of Castle Duello. What you see so far is the older portion of the castle. This is the section of the castle that was built of stone first. Prior to that....

Well, let's just wait for me to finish this section then I will publish for all those who wish to hear it, the story of Castle Duello.

But for now, the card calls me to assemblage...

edit: Some of the posts here could conceivably get quite long. So I have started a blog in which to go into more detail at the various stages as I work on this project. I will still post my progress here, but the blog site will have more detailed ramblings...er...postings.

Ok. Main structure for phase 1 is COMPLETE! Now to turn my attention to building the accoutrements such as the remaining crenelations and the other props. Then I will magically transform my knife into a pen so I can construct the history of this phase of Castle Duello.

But first...I need to clean my workspace and get some laundry done :roll:

What I will be posting here will be a condensed version of what I post over on the blog. So while you may see one or two pictures on the posts here, if you go to the blog you may see more.

When I get the story pieces written, I will post a paragraph or two here and then link to the blog for the rest of the story.

Absolutely, I'm always interested in how people store the terrain. We have two cats, and they also like to eat cardstock, so much stuff is always boxed up in the closet. Not a good system, but it's out of sight. My cats just end up clawing at the carpet around the closet... as though they know I have hidden it there to protect it from them.
