The project's too massive for a step-by-step WIP, and so far there are no surprises. I'll just highlight the cool stuff .

My wife wants to do some construction, too, so I wanted a big, big kit. She'll pitch in on whatever strikes her fancy.

I was gonna take some time off. Really, I was! Our IRC game tonight was canceled, though, so my eyes turned longingly toward the dining room table. Then I saw the plastered walls and parquet-lookin' floor, and my doom was complete; this thing is just so right for our F2F campaign.

How long do you spend working on your models a night, because you are going much faster then I have been.

Along about 8:30 p.m. Eastern last night, I started looking at the Castle .pdf files, picked a building, and printed out the stuff. I think it was about three hours later that I took the pictures of the completed first story. This includes bonehead time (mounting a transparency on the outside of wall #3, then printing that wall again).

So...what fills the missing corners of the second floors on the 1" and 1.5" base pages? The instructions don't seem to explain what to do about them, and indeed show that the first and second floor rooms are the same size and shape.

Why shouldn't the second floor base also be square (minus the stairwell)?

You mean where the corners are cut off? That is for the supports from the floor below to key into the floor above.

Killed my printer (five-year-old Canon S900) while trying to print out the complex roof. Either the print head or logic board has crapped out. Work has briefly halted, but I'm now installing a sweet new PIXMA Pro 9000. No way am I not gonna build this weekend!

Interestingly, the print-outs look about the same. That's a good thing.

The new machine's faster and quieter, though--barely a whisper as it prints.

WHat paper/cardstock are you using. If yu are using something that was made for inkjets then you should see a huge improvement. I went from a S800 to a MP...cannot think of the number but a much newer model and the blending was noticeable.

This only showed up on coated cardstock.

It's Wausau "Exact Index" Premium Cardstock (110-lb) for lasers, inkjets and offsets. My old S900 was no slouch; I was really pleased with the photo quality from it.

I had never thought of using coated cardstock. Sounds like a great idea.

Oh neither was the S800 - dead sexy to be exact but when you start on coated cardstock you will see the blending of the ink will have a great definition, sharper contrast.
