I voted for Modern Streets but really I'd prefer something in between Modern Streets and Industrial... I'd like a future streets... or sci-fi streets, but earth based.

Still, I'd definitely be interested both Modern Streets and Industrial if they are the closet you come to my desires.

It's not the gov it's the stupid game stores. They take the RRP in US and then Double it to make AUD. The exchange rate is not US$0.50 to the A$1 which it was about ten years ago. We are siting about US$0.85 to the A$1.

This was one of the factors in changing my buying habits - when I started shipping products over from the States cheaper then what the games stores were buying off the Australian suppliers I thought I would give it all away. GW is the only group that this does not hold true too... but their stuff is overpriced anyways.

The second reason I would go a pdf over a vinyl mat is storage for a gaming product that I have no gaming use for at the time. Sure I love future gaming and having a mat that matches the style of gaming I like is great but when I have phased out of that genre for the next 6 to 12 months I would most likely trash/give away my printed mat. Not store it, only to find that something has fallen on it leaving a crease embedded or that it keeps a memory of the roll so it doesn't sit flat.

To me the pdf option is great. Its kitbashable. This is a path that Steve and I talked about in length when sorting out the base to Hostile Takeover and Wormhole. Having mats that could be adjusted by overlaying new printouts. At the time we were discussing vinyl mats as an option, it looks that he and Denny talked about it too. Or it is a natural progression thought process.


That is what I think, yes the mats are a great idea and I can see a future in them but for me I would rather have the option of adjusting my maps to fit the game I need it for.

Slap a quick minis game for arena combat where your team gets better through games and winning makes you money to improve equipment. slap that together with a arena mat and you have a sale, you could have just a base mat with an overlook of an empty arena and props like small bunkers and various bits of cover so you can make your own arena.

Hmmm, it really depends on exactly what is on the mats.

If, as an example, the Ancient Township or Modern Street Combat mat comes with a predefined street layout then I would not be interested at all. If it is appropriately colored with random patches of grass/trash/weeds in much the same way as the stars and nebulae on the space battles sheet then I would likely get some of the mats.

Possible ways to handle roads and such so as to make them tangible objects, yet keep them positionable, might be to make them similar to the old Colorforms line of toys - cobblestone patterned roads that cling to the battle mat, corn fields, and sidewalks might all work well that way, and give the option of selling add on sets to expand the usefulness of a given mat.

Another suggestion is to make them double sided, one side with a grid, the other gridless but otherwise identical. Similar in a way to those battlemats that have square grids on one side and hexes on the other.

A couple random answers to random points I'm catching in the thread:

* The mats have excellent "lay flat" properties. They ship rolled and can be unrolled, rolled back up and stored repeatedly. I have one hanging on my wall right now in fact (They make great wall art too )

* "IF" we ship a CD with the rolled mat it will be on a business card format CDRom in the shipping tube (yup they really do exist ). Either that or you will receive a download on the site (or both).

* The mats are spill proof, rip proof and UV cured/resistant (fade free).

* City based mats will likely tile so that after purchasing a few you would have city blocks to arrange in various ways (That's not quite as limiting as you might think).

I had to pick "I want them all" as I could use all of them for MechWarrior, Solaris VII, or MageKnight, or NoLimits, NoFrontier, or Doctor Who.

I could even use them for outdoor GURPS combat. These would be great for me as I have a quarter of the space now at my flat here in the UK compared to what I'm used to.


Question is does those dry erase markers work on them? You can't possibly offer all grids to please everyone on a physical product.

The line of tangible mats has me greatly interested. Printing out that much is a waste of time and resources for me personally. I'd rather spend $30 and have a nice sturdy version that rolls up and gets put in the corner with my other mats.

I picked them all because I'm sure they will be a whorthy art investment, as well as a great gaming utility. I like that they can be rolled up repeatedly and still lay flat when used. I would like some ballpark price however ... buying does require some planning too.

If there will be a roll-up vinyl space mat resembling the incredible quality seen in Uncharted Space, I will definitely be buying! I realize the price will be up there, but hey, this is taking things out of the paper terrain world, so we all have to adjust our expectations accordingly. Different beast=different costs. I'm in.

Hmmm...I think I actually prefer the flexibility of cardstock to a vinyl mat, though the discussion on urban mats in a city block format does intrigue me. I think I would pickup a few...especially if there was a solid one for nautical play.

Rereading the last post...I find it's a bit confusing on my part. Sorry, monday morning.

To clarify:
1. I like the idea of modular urban cityblock mats.

2. I'd love to see a vinyl mat for use in a nautical setting.

Now I have to get some coffee....

I'd go for a Naval or space mat as a dead cert.

Personally I wouldn't go for the Forest/Grassy/Sandy type variants as I don't think this would be too well represented in an inherantly shiny medium such as vinyl. I've not seen the finished product though so will reserve judgement on the last 3 and keep an open mind.

Just my thoughts.

I think at the moment the desert or arctic ones would be most useful to me, but the urban ones have me intrigued.....
