Image Gallery Emergency

Hey folks,

Our image gallery hosted kindly by DKD all these years has recently fallen into some trouble with hackers. I am doing my best to follow up with DKD to find out exactly what happened and what can be saved.

This is a bit of a "long time coming" scenario but since we recently moved to our very own server it probably makes the most sense to host the gallery on the official WWG site. That way we can keep a closer eye on any nefarious hacker activity and make sure this doesn't happen again.

Long story short, we are working to implement a new gallery. More information coming shortly...

I suspected as much from those .rar files appearing, but it's sad to see it happen.

Let us know when you have something to replace it on the WWG site and I'll upload what images I still have that I have uploaded before.

I agree... it's pathetic when people do this kick of malicious hacking. I can understand, to an extent, the challenge of entering a bank or goverment website, but most of the hackers who are good enough to do so only do it for the challenge, and often and up working in securities, helping companies reinforce their protection. But to attack a oersonal or hobby site, and not even a major player like GW, is just out of order.

Denny, if you do port it over, I strongly recommend having the account creation be moderated, and the file type restricted to only include JPGs. Just restricting the file type would help on it's own, but the extra level of moderation could help prevent the random attacks.

One of the things we do at another forum is open up a free account at or another image hosting site and post our pictures there.

I had that happen to me the other day when I tried to restore the factory settings to my desktop computer. I had all the disks but when I tried to install them dozens of files didn't work. Now it won't even boot windows.

Luckily its the computer I let everyone else use, all my work is on my laptop.

After all the work that DKD put into this site, as well as the broad user input that has given WorldWorksGames the best advertising reference possible (imo

), along with the tonnes of ideas that have poured out of that gallery for myself and many others, I have to say that I am disappointed to see this happen. Some people have no idea how much damage they can cause with stupid things like this.

If it's any consolation, all of my pictures (and a bunch I am not putting up till the gallery is fixed) are still available if the original gallery pics cannot be retrieved.

Denny, thanks for "unstickying" my links. There was no point in keeping them "sticky'd" since this will change the existing pics links, and since the current links just bring up the oh so wonderful red X in a white box.

I have to say, the timing on this sux. I had just finished catching up on updating both lists and logged in a week ago to update them, imagine my disappointment in finding out the news. I'll redo the lists as I have time when the new gallery is up, at least it's just the links I have to replace
