Hi, I'm a newcomer to the site and have just made my first purchase - Mayhem Armoury.

At the start of this year my New Year's resolution was to start a zombie apocalypse campaign. In January I purchased the All Things Zombie set of rules, which were ideal for me as they allow for solo play. Sadly, none of my other gamers like horror gaming. (Yep, unbelievably, such people do exist!)

Next up, was collecting lots of zombie figures and painting them. I have over 150 at the moment and that number rises every month.

My initial thought for scenery was to use Heroclix and Horrorclix maps. I have loads of them. But quite by chance I came upon a battle report by Audrey Ewing (aka Wraeththu) and I was knocked out by her 3D scenery, all based on WWG models. Flat maps were no longer an option. I wanted 3D scenery with interior detail.

I plan on making a number of foamcore gaming boards roughly 2 feet square to build my own zombietown. I want them to be modular so that I can change them from game to game and that is certainly doable. I plan on buying all of the Mayhem Urban sets this month. I also plan on sticking the walls, floors and roofs of my buildings onto mounting card, which is quite thick and very strong. I want my buildings to last. All doors will be openable and I want to print all windows onto transparencies.

This brings me to a query I hope you can answer. Where do you guys get your transparency paper (plastic?) from to print on. Bear in mind I do live in England but I don't mind ordering from America if that is the only solution.

The transparencies material is ink-jet transparencies (unless you use a color laser printer, then look for laser transparencies) found at most office supply stores. Look at the section of a store or webstore for meeting supplies. As much as computer graphics have done to take over the meeting spaces, there are still many companies that still use "overhead slides" made on their computer printers. The ink-jet version has a mat finish on one side, which holds the ink and allows it to dry without making a mess. If you look for the store brand, you will find packages of 12 to 25 pages fairly cheaply. I say "fairly" since the cost of everything made of petrolium products have gone up somewhat. If you dont have a local office supply store (Staples, Office Max, or the UK version of them), let me know and I will give you web links for online stores. You might find similar discussions in other areas of the forum, and other UK members may have already mentioned companies you will be familiar with.

If your in England I would probably try amazon. They have good prices usually and they have international shipping, I think.

When buying transparencies remember to get the ones specifically made for your type of printer. Example: inkjet, laser, plain paper copier.

Thanks for the help, guys. I checked out Amazon and found that they are selling a pack of 40 A4 sheets for just £10. Seems very reasonable to me. I own an Epson printer and Epson's own brand of transparencies are retailing at roughly £40 for tha same amount.

Welcome to the addiction/hobby that is WWG modelling.

I'm in the Uk too, down in Plymouth. I get my transparencies from Staples and have found them to be very good. (Not as cheap as Amazon though so I'll probably check them out next time I make up a 15 quid order)

As has already been said it's important to match the transparency to the printer type.

Check out the Cathedrae Noctis set. It's worth the cost for the transparencies alone!! Massive church windows, awesome when printed, especially so when backlit. As you know, living over here, even the most modern cities have 800 year old cathedrals in the middle of them so it fits in perfectly.

Many thanks for the warm welcome. As you can see from my "Badges" I now own all of the Urban sets. I've already constructed a few vehicles just to get started and to get the hang of things. I've made a pick-up truck from Mayhem Armoury and the garbage truck (very complex model but it looks great once built) and the bus (both from Bits of Mayhem). I'll start making buildings once I receive my inkjet transparency paper.

I have the bug for making cardboard models and I'm full of enthusiasm for my long term project. I'll be buying them sooner rather than later.

To Shadegate, nice to hear from a fellow Brit. Cathedrae Noctis is on my shopping list, as is Shellendrak Manor. Both could be useful in a zombie apocalypse campaign.

I'm hoping to get a digital camera for my birthday later this yeat so that I can let you see how I'm getting on.
