Denny is probably catching up on much needed sleep right now. Over the years there has been intermittent discussion on pulp terrain. If you look around the forums you'll find the threads. Right now WWG doesn't have anything that is precisely labelled "pulp". All of the Shellendrack Manor stuff can certainly fit the bill though. If you have some ability with photoshop you could easily combine elements of Shellendrack with the Mayhem series and kitbash the two together to get a reasonable 30's-40's urban look. For that matter exteriors from Villageworks could be combined with mayhem for a rustic 40's look. Just an idea.

Then again, I have no use for the set so my afore-comment is in behalf of those who can actually use it.

As to the other threads Jon, well, honestly I was looking to get Denny's and/or some other WWG designer's current take on the possibility of the terrain I specifically was asking about in context with the present status of WWG.
The youngest Pulp thread is at least four months old and lots can change in that amount of time.
Plus, most of that youngest Pulp thread devolved into a furrball which was disturbing to Denny and not helpful in getting Pulp terrain worked on.
Please Jon, let us not take this thread that direction.

As to photoshopping, no Jon, I do not have the or a like program or the skills.
That is why I buy terrain.
I would buy TVAG's "Mean Streets" and "Mean Sets", but I think Denny and his people can crank out a superior product.
Again Jon, that is why I am asking the WWG designers here along with their big head honcho Denny about the possibilities.

Pulp gaming is strongly represented at every con.
Pulp gaming is on the programs of cons like Gen-Con and that ilk even.

Now Matt, are you going to tell me that historical gaming, which Pulp is a part of, along with to some degree Fantasy and Sci-Fi, is a small niche?
If so, I would then have to ask you to honestly look at the traffic at TMP historical boards which is where Pulp gaming's board is located within versus the TMP Fantasy and the Sci-Fi combined.

I just do not get this idea that Pulp is a small niche market.
Shoot folks, most of the highest grossing motion pictures of all time are either out right Pulp like Raiders of the Lost Ark or are Pulp in their presentation like Star Wars.
This attitude against Pulp is just beyond the pale for me.
Pulp gamers play a wide variety of games usually.

The well-demonstrated sheer the-decision-is-made attitude here that says doing some Pulp sets would make it where WWG could not meet its financial demands is ludicrous!
But that is exactly the attitude that you, Matt, and Denny are presenting to the WWG community on this thread.

Well Pulp gamers, the stance of Denny and the WWG designers on WWG's production of Pulp-focused or even -leaning terrain is clear to see here.

Rabidfox, I'm sorry the answers that Denny and Matt are giving you aren't to your satisfaction. I don't expect you'd be happy with any answer other than "yes, we're releasing two sets next month along those lines", but the last thing that we want is a big argument here on the boards.

Let me tell you a little bit about how we operate here. Denny does not have a "master list" of releases that he orders people to create...it's largely done based on what inspires and excites a particular designer. We obviously make suggestions and recommendations based on what seems popular and hot, but it's not as if Denny can dictate to anyone other than himself what he will make.

You are absolutely right that Pulp is a valid market, and that it would have the potential to sell. At the same time, we're trying to continue to support and expand our existing lines (which receive continued interest, and have returning customers expecting more), and we're trying to branch into other areas as we have the resources to do so. There are only TWO designers who do this full-time for a living, and one of them (Denny) is coming off of a huge effort at Wormhole.

Consider, if you will, the Western folks. They've been in here, much as you have, pleading for adding Western modelsets to our line, making equally valid arguments for its usefulness and applicability. We'd like to put out Western sets, but at the same time that's a lot of time, effort, and focus away from other areas by one of our designers. If someone "got inspired" to get into Western, it would probably happen, but it hasn't happened...yet.

The same is true with Asian, with Egyptian/Mayan, with Exterior sets (until just recently). There's plenty of genres yet unexplored, but only so many hours in the day to build 'em.


You want a direct answer? If you want Pulp sets now, or in the next couple of months, then you will have to go elsewhere. We have had to say the same, regretably, to the Western, Asian, Egyptian/Mayan, and other folks through the years.

When will that change? I simply don't know. Matt is on the downhill slope of Hinterlands (applicable to ANY timeframe), and hasn't said what he's doing next. It *could* be pulp. It *could* be western. It could be just about any genre that gets him inspired to build a new set and deliver WorldWorks quality.

Denny's finally put out Wormhole. What's his next project? I'm not sure of that either.


All I can say for sure is to keep letting your opinion about the Pulp market be known, encourage others to come and post their interest, and tell us where our existing sets (Shellendrak, Return, Mayhem Armory's brick buildings) fail to meet the needs.

And to the rest of the guys...I thank you for wanting to "defend our honor" here, but really...if the staff's actively posting in a thread like this, you don't need to help "shout down" someone who is genuinely interested. If he wanted to leave in a huff, he'd have done it already...please don't try to get him to do so.

I'm sure Denny and company would love to do a line of pulp terrain but they do have established lines that are still be worked on and are running down the pipeline like mad.

It really seems the only answer Rabidfox would accept is that Worldworks Games will drop everything right now to work on an extensive film noir setworks with options for printing in black and white for that true noir feel.

Still arguing that pulp falls under historical boards and therefore has more traffic is a bit of a stretch. Yes, the pulp genre has had quite an injection of popularity in the last few years but assuming every Napoleonic player arguing about facing colors is also wearing a battered fedors at the same time is a bit of a stretch.

It is possible that Worldworks could do a better pulp set than TVAG and the Mean Streets but that puts them in a position of competing with an already established and extensive line.

Bah, I'm trying to over explain when one can just look at the in progress charts and see why pulp sets aren't in the pipe yet or likely right now.

What you guys don't seem to understand is that while Denny and CO would LOOOOVE to do a pulp set (believe me, I have spoken to them on multiple occasions and they really would like to), it currently isn't financially feasible. For Denny, this is his main source of income. Just because there are a few very vocal pulp gamers on these boards doesn't mean that they come even close to matching the fantasy or SciFi/Modern audience.

WWG doesn't currently have the cash flow to spend a couple months developing a set that is likely to make less than 100 sales (to be optomistic. 100x15=$1500 for two months worth of work. $1500x6= $9000, less than half of the legal minimum wage, which is already impossible to live on). I will admit I'm basing these numbers on approximation, but honestly I don't think they can afford to make a pulp set at this time.

Rabidfux could you PLEASE lighten up on your posts? PLEASE?? There is possibly only 2 great forums on Earth (My opinion) one is for the Yamaha 16G mixer/recorder and the other is WWG. The whole antagonistic "flame on" thing really pisses me off and this is normally a haven from that sort of nonsense. This forum is full of well spoken intelligent people including you. Use your powers for good dude and stop antagonizing people that are CLEARLY NOT patronizing you or being aggressive. If I had received that message from Jon I would have replied "Thanks Man! I love pulp too...I love fantasy....and I would love WWG crew to take also western/Egypt/etc... But I -as others have said better than me- would prefer to see a "Barbie castle fashion" that Denny wanted to do...that whatever it's that will sell more but being a "contract" job... They do their sets with passion (you can see in the details...in the forum...in all) so I prefer a release that I don't care or need, with the WWG soul in it that a soulless one - you can find some of them in another companies...

No kitbashes are available, even those that were all but promised in February on this forum.
No pulp sets even forecasted right now, let alone in the reasonable future.
Nothing has changed for the Pulp gamer despite the many additional words from y'all.
What are Pulp gamers to do?

There is TVAG, there is Old Glory, there is Evans Designs, there is DPM, there is Korber, there is AmeriTown - even Old Crow/Ainsty has buildings that can be used by Pulp Gamers.
Some of us have tried to show some loyalty to WWG, bought nothing from these several sources and have waited for the Pulp terrain that in 2006 Denny said was on the horizon since before Shellandrak Manor was released.
Well, we got was the Manor and its improvement kit with just a few, a very few kitbashes for the one building.
Where is the rest of it?
Where is the Pulp terrain with any real utility?
By now, I think that pulp terrain Denny mentioned back then is just like those waves you see 100m down the road on a hot day.
