I'm going to make everything for this game in half scale! (printing two pages to a sheet of paper)

I have been modeling with cardstock and designing my own models, so I'm fairly experienced, i would rate half scale construction at about medium difficulty, if your brand new to this craft i would suggest building at regular scale.

turns out when printing two pages per sheet one inch = 5/8th an inch

I did use my lighter card stock for the capitol ship and i feel it was a good decision.

Those are looking really nice!

Having limited storage space, I may go with this option as well.

Is your TOS 1/2 size as well?

the TOS are 1/2 size as well, every thing is still readable, but less instantly recognizable.

Those half sized models are totally cool. Did you use any foamcore bracing on the inside? I take "lighter cardstock" to be the 60lb cover stock variety? Just want to be sure before I take the plunge and follow your lead.

I tolja guys back in February that half-scale would work!

A word to the wise: do NOT print the sector map at half scale. It works fine at regular scale, is prettier, and for small games, you just use half of it.

my blue marker bled while I was edging the top armor, so i gave the ship a new strip of color! i think it worked moderately well,




I'm a little less pleased with the half scale command tray and TOS, I'm sure at full size the weight of the board is enough to keep it steady while moving damage trackers, right now that friction is enough to move the tray.

I can see that (the command tray) being very fiddly at that small size. I've got 3 built at 1:1 scale and it can be a wee bit niggly at times. Especially with a few Mod Chips in place. LOL

And those Command Reference Cards ought to be real exciting to read at 1/2 scale. I hope your wearing magnifying glasses.

How was the Hammer Head build? Amy modifications(simplifications) to the build. Did you remove the double fold sections of the outer armour?

What type of paper are you building these with? typical 110lb cardstock?

yeah i printed the command cards at full scale, i plan to use the holder on the tray for dice and extra bits, like inserts and what not.

i use a 110lb Cover stock for my heavy paper, it's thicker then usual card stock it's a much stronger paper and weighs more,

my lighter paper is actually an 80lb but is also stronger then normal. i lost it's information but will get it again when i buy more. i use it for naturally more complicated models and when I'm building for display.

I buy my papers at a local Paper Plus store, if you have a store nearby that just sells office papers i suggest going to it and asking to see their samples, hopefully the service will be good like the one near me, i can get very specific with what kind of paper i want and they will know right away what i need.

i did not really need to simplify the design of the ship, however you cant use foam core to mount the outer hull because the foam core is to big at this scale.

You've definitely proven to me that a half scale fleet is doable. On the other hand I wouldn't say the same about the command tray and TOS units. It's kind of funny but the tray and TOS were actually scaled down from their original prototype form. I settled on the final dimensions mainly for functionality reasons. Any smaller they get finicky, any bigger they take up too much relestate.

so i did a little work and here is what i came up with

basically the problem was reaching the damage tab and pulling it back and forth due to available space and the friction of the tab.

so my solution was to shorten the switches (makes more space for the TOS behind it)

and to use a "gutter" to hold the damage tracker instead of two interior cuts


the one on the left is the bashed TOS


here you can see how the gutter holds the tracker, it does this with little friction and it will still stay in place if the tray is bumped.

however i am just thinking about rebuilding all the tos at full scale

the carriers base comes in at 5 1/4 inches

i have noticed that it's not a perfect "half scale", i'm not really sure why this is, but i do know that if you print out the wormhole ruler you get an acurately scale ed measurement device.

Thanks for the info Tyler. Interesting, my Carrier is 5 3/4 Inches long. I think, that is due the differencies between european and US paper size or because different printer drivers. That is not so good, if someone plans to fight with friends they built own fleet themselves. Well, on the other hand, i like the idea to have slightly bigger ships, than the others will have:p

Yeah, that has to do with paper sizes I'm sure. With an 8.5 x 11 you're looking at about 64% to get the two 8.5" sheets to fit in the 11" dimension. That means that the 11" inch side is using about 7.1" of the 8.5" side of the page.

A4 would be about 70% to get the 210 to fit in the 297 dimension. At that scale, the 297 should roughly fit in and take up almost all of the 210.

So they're not really half scale. It's 64% in US format paper and 70% on A4.

i made this half scale game board from a sheet of foamcore and two 18/12 inch sections of black craft foam. while not very pretty this board feels good to play on, the foam surface really grips the miniatures bases and give the impression of swede or felt. it folds down the center for easy storage

here is my full collection excluding the half scale TOS
