I recently acquired villageworks after discovering WWG and decided to show off the models to the whole family during he holidays. (heh heh heh)

I didn't have a whole lot of space so only a few buildings and accessories are used, they are loosely stacked for variable setups. It's not too shabby for a first try at cardsock gaming I think. You be the judge I personally can't wait for the in-laws to take a gander at the tree.

Bruenor: Thanks for the tips, your interior guide is totally great As for destruction, my 2 year old is pretty good at *not* touching things when we don't want him to, I guess it helps that this is v2.0 of the village. He got all the buildings I made for v1.0 which were in-scale with the HO trainset (all dozen or so), The novelty has worn off. The cat knows he would be cruisin' for a bruisin' if he messed with the minis.

LD2062: I think the statue has been re-tasked from an aquarium set or something. It's got some painted green stuff on the base that hints at algea. It was the first time that I had seen a statue for decorations so I snagged it for a buck immediately. For lights, you might want to look into xmas lights, and wire your building bases accordingly. I know that stores who specialize in decorations have the battery operated lampposts but he ones I have seen are expensive enough that I wouldn't want to take them apart. Model Railroad stores MUST have light up lights.

2 years or so ago I saw the working mini street lights at the dollar store. Those are the only ones cheap enough that I would consider pulling them apart.

Hmm, I guess I'll keep an eye on the pet section too. I don't recall seeing any fish bowl decerations off hand but I'll double check next time I'm there.

What did the family think?

I think it was mission accomplished. Everyone looked at it and said "that's nice" and then conveniently found something else to talk about. The only one that expressed genuine interest was my GF's 16yo step-sister, she liked the zombies. There is potential in that one, yes...

On a side-note. Guess what my GF got me for Xmas? 2 black printer cartridges and 100 8x11 labels. And of course that means that I was able to do this a few hours later:



(I haven't edged the whole thing yet due to the blue nebulas. The flash is very unforgiving as well. It folds to 1/4 size for easy transport and storage. )

It's happening again! This time the zombie hordes have brought friends! Skeletons and Bats and Wraiths. oh my! The staltward defenders move to meet the foes head on, with only a grim hope of success. Is EcksmasTowne's turkey cooked? Stay tiuned!

@LD: I'm using a *really* old HP C618 photosmart camera sitting on a binder (to point it up or down). Too poor for a miniature tripod . I'm not using the flash either which I think *really* helps with the quality of a macro-photos.

I also enabled the 10 second timer (lost the triggger remote ages ago) so i'm not touching the camera during the exposure time. (1.6 seconds for the grave wraiths and banshee for example).

Who needs fancy-shmancy 10megapixel cameras when I've got 2.2 perfectly good megapixels right here!

@gloriar: I like it, it came out a few days too late last year to make the Xmas Village scene. I'm still building it tho, added some buttresses this very evening.

2.2 HP!!!! I'm glad I just dropped $130 on a new camera to replace my 5.6 HP camera.

Mini tripods are sold at all the dollar stores near me.

Where do you get a remote trigger? I'd love to have one. But I'll give the timer idea a try.
