Just thought I'd share some pictures of a couple D&D sessions. Lots of WWG props on display and a few other designers that I'm sure you'll notice. Couple of coustom jobs too; I did the pile of old books and the open book on thet able next to the wand. The wand I did with a paper clip and gold bead

The other players really enjoyed all of the props. They were getting into it too! One player had his PC climb on top of some crates for a better view. Another player decided his PC was going to throw a crate into the sarcophagus and lite the incapacitated vampire aflame! So he actually grabbed the crate and threw it in there

Looking good. It's always cool to see other people's WWG products in action.

This reminds me of what I'm working on now. I putting the preprinted maps from horrorclix and mageknight in a poster frame and then building the walls and props right on top the plastic.

I can honestly say that, as DM, I have consciously stayed away form circular layouts as well as layouts with diagonals. They are a pain to draw, and even more of a pain to worry about in game when players want to stand in/move through partial squares.

Yeah; round structures are a PITA. However an all square and rectangular world is pretty boring! The worst I had to draw was a rectangular keep with one corner of it being 3/4 of a tower.

Really I've just not been that strict about squares... again what with the all square world . Not everything fits in squares or works on the basis of squares; what do you do about liquids? They certainly occupy only portions of squares. To me I'm strict about the scale (1"=5') and not necessarily that everything must fit in a square. The squares just help you quickly visualize the scale

If you are strict about grid squares then I have one suggestion. You just have to be clear, and consistant, about occpying partial squares. For example if half or more of a square is not open then nobody can occupy that square. If 3/4 of the square is open than it can be occupied.

As for drawing them. A whole circle is actually easy. You just take notes of how many squares make up the diameter. Draw a dot in the center and count out each radius. Draw a dot for a north, south, east, and west radius. Then draw arches from each radius dot to another until you have a circle. Sounds more complicated than it is!

As for round structures on a battle grid - there are plastic compasses, designed to hold chalk, markers, or dry erase markers that have suction cups on one end. Mine is cheap yellow plastic and I believe that I got it at a dollar store - I think that it was originally designed to hold chalk.

*EDIT* I am pretty sure that is the one I got at a dollar store. I can draw a circle that just about fills a piece of easel pad paper, maybe a 25" circle.

As nice as something like that can be, I tend to have square towers if I draw them and round towers would probably be the only round thing I build. My issue isn't with creation, yet rather with gameplay. How do you decide which squares are viable?

I've got bunk beds that look kind of like those!
