Hi, everyone. I finally got to a point where I can post some pics of my modular dungeon. It's made from the Gothic Realms set and constructed from foamcore. I drew heavily for ideas from Shatteredragon's Castleworks Classic Modular Kitbash in the gallery. http://wormholegamer.com/photos/thumbna ... ?album=106

I made some masterboards first using 20x30 inch 3/16th foamcore. I have two finished so far with 2 more WIP. Each have Gothic Realms ground tile on one side, with either Hinterlands or Caveworks groundtiles on the other. Each masterboard has been edged with a black ribbon glued and pinned into place, and both sides were then coated with several layers of Matte finish Mod-Podge decoupage sealer.









This was a fun and relatively easy project that was also inexpensive. I did a little simple kitbashing to make pages of different sized walls, edging strips, doors, double doors and arches. It's strong, expandable, and as you can see in the last pic, easy to store. Thanks for looking.

Very nice. The foamcore walls are a nice touch.

But considering how many walls I use in my layouts its not going to be practical for me to do it that way.

I have considered buying Gothic Realms, but what does it really add to the dungeon building theme?

(Although I might just buy it because WWG is really addictive!)

On that note, Denny, any chance of an expansion for the Dungeon Tiles? I really like the original set, but would love to see something more universal/generica.

I've never thought of giving a masterboard coatings of Mod-Podge sealer, that's a great idea that I'll have to use! Thanks for posting it and your boards and walls look great.

I've been toying with building foamcore walls the way you have but have yet to do anything beyond playing around a little with it.

@Skunkape: Thanks, I tried the Mod-Podge stuff myself for the first time when I made my wife a birthday present a couple moths ago. It was a little laptop writing desk that I painted and then decoupaged pictures of things that she likes. It was a direct result of my WWG hobby in a way. I found pictures from the internet, printed them on cardstock, cut them out the way we do our models, edged them with the markers I edge my WWG builds with, glued them on with the tacky glue I use in my builds, and then applied the Mod-Podge. It has pictures of roses and quilt patterns and Longaberger baskets on it. Really girly. I almost posted it here because I used so much of the things I learned from WWG to make it. I was gonna call the post "When gamers go bad..."

BTW, the Mod-Podge worked better for me than Krylon Clear Acrylic. I used that first on one of the boards instead of Mod-Podge. The Krylon dried with a horrible hazy finish. I think it was because I used it in a garage that was too cold. So I reprinted out the groundtiles again and glued them on over the ruined ones and then sealed them with Mod-Podge. Just to be safe I dried the boards in the house (no trouble with fumes/odor from Mod-Podge). The only problem was some ripples in the ground tiles from air trapped under the tiles, that eventually cleared up after several more layers of Mod-Podge.

@Gallagen: I agree with LD. The texture of the walls is excellent and the traps and sewers really give this set a great deal of versatility. Someday I'll use it for a system of sewers for Mordheim.

@LD: Thanks, it was your excellent work posted in the Keep on the Shadowfells thread that got me going on making a dungeon. The main problem with using the foamcore for me is it really slows down the build, especially if you make doors that open and close.

@Denny: That's great news. I'd love to see some more dungeon sets. On the subject of the masterboards, I still need to make two sides for a village/town setting. I was looking at Village Works and considered using that, but after looking at the Thoumont ground tiles I'm wondering if I shouldn't just wait for Himmelveil. Can you say whether there will be ground tiles suitable for Masterboards and give any hint when we will see Himmelveil come out? I need the boards for an active campaign and if its still a ways off I'll just go ahead with the VW masterboards and resurface them when Himmelveil comes out.

Thanks, Shatteredragon. You have made some excellent builds, and your recent posts of your pics just inspired me more. Now I've got to get the Maiden and Seaworks. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your ideas and builds.
