Hmmm, so what is in store for 2005?

Village Works Ultimate has been mentioned, the question is 'when?'

Castle Works Ultimate Expansion is already on the WiP board.

Cave Works Ultimate like VWU has been mentioned, and a gain the question of 'when' arises...

Will there be more Space Works?

Will there be a Steamworks? (My current hope!)

A New England Works? (Go welll with Steampunk and horror.)

A Wild West Works or three? (Town, Fort, and Train would be my suggestions, of which the train wouldn't have a chance to cool before I started downloading it.)

And what of Chambers of Evil?

Hmmmm, maybe we can set up a pool on when a given supplement comes out, winner getting it free (but everybody chipping in a buck or so, I am not talking about taking food out of Denny's moth... I think he bites!)

Ahhh the sweet smell of speculation.... but unless we're going to torture Denny, we will in all likelihood not get any hints of Things-to-Come.

Nevertheless, here are my thoughts (for whatever they are worth):

Spaceworks II: I sincerely hope the SF genre will not be treated as the proverbial stepchild again! Please WW continue to put out different SF themed sets.

Steamworks: Yes, yes and yes! I would prefer some useful fortification, houses or machineshops. I play Warmachine regularly and this game would benefit greatly from some nice scenery that is not High Fantasy or psudo-tolkienesque.
I gamemaster Space 1889 on occasion and plan to start an Iron Kingdsoms Campaign sometime in the summer... *hint*

Wild West Works: the best part about it would be the name... otherwise I think there are plenty of decent Wild West themed paper buidlings out there. Skip it!

Ultimate Series: I understand the urge to go back and revise what now seems inadequate when compared to your skills today, Denny. But I'd rather see new ideas/sets than a second take on older sets. I really likes Arenaworks and the Seaworks series best, so far: those sets surprised me!

I would say that steampunk is generiic enough, though a WARMACHINE specific set would not be. And goodness knows a lot of people have been asking after one.

A good steampunk set could also be used for any other Victorian era gaming, at least for urban areas. For rural England and much of Europe Village Works could be used for any period into the mid Twentieth Century.

Industrial bits can be found in a lot of places that date back to the 1800s even today. When I was growing up there were still steam shovels and steam cranes in use. (Old mind you, but they still worked, so they still got used.) The railyards of Boston looked a lot like a typical Steampunk setting even in the 1960s, right down to having steam trains...

Steam engines were still being built into the 1940s, including the most powerful locomotives ever built, the Alleghany and the Hughes Big Boy, diesels are more efficient, and a lot easier to link into a series, but a single Alleghany could pull a loaded train five miles long, across the flat. Diesels are more powerful in series than even an Alleghany, but you only needed the one...

The rural United States had its own style of architecture, so a Western set would be needed for the States, even though they are concurrent in period.

Sorry 'bout that, I like trains...

Another possibility would be a Steampunk expansion to VWU -- some Victorian-ish elements to add to more generic stone or wood buildings, and various extra industrial props.

Maybe, or for any City Works that might happen, but I think that there are enough avenues to explore in a steam era setting to qualify for its own full set (or three). Steam engines in particular, not just locomotives but free standing engines. (Goodness knows that I could have used one while making my steam Maiden...) Factories (Huge gears, mysterious machinery, conveyor belts, boilers, furnaces... The list goes on.)

And proper steamships. While my steam maiden came out okay (or at least I think so) having others would be nice too. Submarines like the Nautilus from Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, ships like the Monitor and the Virginia, some other small warships would be nice along with riverboats and steam launches.

And some non-steam ideas...

Hmmm, and how about a Cemetary Works, or at least a cemetary expansion to Village Works Ultimate?

Or a Gothic City set for those who want to do an undead or horror themed city or town? There are plenty of people playing Ravenloft or Dark Ages: Vampire who would appreciate them.
